An alumnus of Harding College, Mr. Beckett Is an able counselor and advisor. Seniors ap- preciate and trust his advice and knowledge when checking on graduation requirements or making important decisions about graduate study. His friendly smile and pleasingr disposition add a note of pleasure to some of the long and tedious tasks involved in maticulation and other routine academic procedures. A vital part of the Harding campus, Mr. Beckett enjoys all of the Bison performances on the gridiron, court and diamond He also enjoys ti gatne of golf with his colleagues or working in his yard. ADMINISTRATION Administrators generate student achievement The talents and disposition needed by a dean of students are effectively portrayed by Har- dingis Dean of Students and Director of Admis- sions, VIRGIL LAWYER. Dean Lawyeras first contact with students frequently begins when the students are snphty mores or juniors in high school as he speaks to high school hcollege daya: programa for youth meetings at congregations throughout the state or at hpmspective student meetings of alumni chapters. He also corresponds with thou- sands of students to inform them of the excellent program at Harding College. As coordinator of the student orientation pro- gram at the beginning of the fall semester, Dean Lawyer has the exciting responsibility of meet- ing students and helping them feel at home on campus. His wit, keen insight into the psycho- logy of youth and genuine interest in young people enable him in an effective manner to make students aware of the great opportunities available at Harding for them to have an en- joyable time while they develop physically, intellectually and spiritually. His office is open to students for help with their problems. VIRGII. H. LAWYER, MA JOSEPH E. PRYOR, PhD Ably and amiably tackling any task before him. JOSEPH E. PRYOR, known to most stu- dents as ;Dr. Joe;n discharges the responsibilities of the Dean of the College. He also serves as a cnordinator for the North Central Association Liberal Arts Study program, Secretary-Treasurer nf Region II of Alpha Chit second Vice-president nf the AEA Department of Higher Education and Councilor for the Central Arkansas Section uf the American Chemical Society. Since assuming the deanship in 1960a he has continued some classroom teaching each semester in his major field of physical science. Dean Pryor inspires many faltering students With his vivid descriptions of todayis physical world. A graduate of Harding College, Dean Pryor draws upon his collegiate background as editor of both the Bison and Petit Jean to provide in- valuable assistance to each Petit Jean staff as faculty advisor. He also serves as Harding's faculty representative to the Arkansas Intercol- legiate Athletic Conference, drawing upon his intercollegiate experience in basketball and track. He serves as a deacon at the College Church of Christ. 24
