Our program objectives are two-fold. ASP provides an alternative opportunity for students to obtain their high school diploma in a manner which will stimulate and develop their learning potential and social abilities. ASP also assists students in cultivating survival skills so as to successfully and productively function in society. ASP students are awarded the regular Harborfields High School diploma upon completion of graduation requirements. The ASP is a just community as developed by L. Kohlberg in his theories of Moral Development. The just com- munity operates on the basis of every member's having an equal voice in decisions concerning the program's structure, activities, student discipline and overall operation. Moral development theory as applied to this school setting, is an informal, but conscious effort on the part of the staff to help students recognize and practice their sense of right, fairness, and human dignity. ASP has been granted the authority to establish policies, rules and regulations for the program by the Board of Education. However, all ASP policies, rules and regulations are subject to administrative review. . All ASP students must be residents of the Harborfields School District. ASP is a completely voluntary program.
