While we know that life at Harbor High is a multitude of realities which are too intangible to be related in black and white, perhaps in some small way we can preserve the friendships which we all hold so dearly. lf this book can bridge the past and bring to mind the year just gone by, it will have served its purpose, Our theme is you the student, your activities, and your memo- ries. x 5 54 S+' 61' s. , ff- ,4- v I -3 Mg S' 4 S ,. 4' x J' s ails -3- DEDICATION si .Q set' if vsgs giv Tj E , Mr. William Wilde Scientist To Mr. William Wilde and Mr. Charles Paige we wish to express our sincere appreciation. Many of these students who became very interested in science under his leadership, are al- ready training for or are planning to enter science lv ssl. fi Mr. Charles Paige Coach careers. We also wish to thank him for his help and advice as our class sponsor for three years. We will best remember Mr. Paige for the great job he has done with our athletic department. Burns, presidentg S. Gokee, vice-president: D. Smith, secretary: R. Niswander, treasurerg K. Garver, student council representative. We, the senior class, We the senior class of 1959, led by our capable officers: Terry Burns, president: Sam Gokee, vice-president, Doris Smith, secretary: Ron Niswander, treasurer, and Ken Garver, student council representative, have finally reached our goal. During the past school year we have made and spent money in many ways. We had concessions at football and basketball rim? . games, a senior play, Desperate Am- brose . and a doughnut sale. Writing themes and a term paper for sociology kept us busy much of the year. On May 31 we attended baccalaurate. Our final triumph came on June 7 at 2:00 o'clock when we marched on to our gradua- tion. After the speaker. Mr. Paul Griffeth. delivered a stirring address. we got our diplomas. Juniors ,wi-my JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS-D. Meeker, president R. Keller, vice-presidentg V. Halter, secretaryg S. Parrow, treasurer: A. Myers, student council representative. We, the junior class, are looking forward to future achievements and success. Our activities for the year began last fall with concessions at a football game and building a float which we entered in the homecoming parade. Later in the fall we put on a Sadie Hawkins Dance for which the costumes turned up some very clever imaginations. During the winter we had concessions at two basketball games and had a cookie sale. On April 18 we had our Junior-Senior Banquet at the Perry Hotel. May 9 was the date of our J-Hop, which was held in our gymansium. Joe Hanna's trio provided the music, and our theme was Sea Fantasy. In between these extras, we studied our United States history, American literature, typing, physics, and many other subjects. Our class colors are blue and white, our flower is the carnation, and our spon- sors are Miss Kemp and Mr. Beer. -32.- M. Babcock M. Burdick V. Halter K. Ira :I r r D. ruskie 1q S .,A,,.. :E,, , A. These are the football teams We had a hard-hitting, but slightly inexperienced football team this year, winning three and losing five games. At times, our team looked great and had good teamwork. We upset Boyne City in a rough game that was played in a howling snow storm. We won over a highly spirited Grayling team, and over Pellston in a game which saw our all-conference halfback, Doug Meeker, cross the goal line two times. During this game, we lost our star end, Ken Garver. when he received a broken leg. In a later game, John Borowski met the same misfortune. Doug Meeker won the honor of being captain of the all-opponent team, receiving the most possible votes. He is only a junior and we are looking for- ward to his becoming even better next year. We also placed Stan Huffman on he second team: and Ron Niswander, Ken Garver, and John Borowski received honorable mention. Doug Meeker was also named to the second team on the Class C all- conference team, on which Stan Huffman and Ken Garver received honorable mention. Hill, G. Pamp, Middle: G. Coveyou. Coach Paige, K. Garver. Right T. Burns, F. Lauer, G. Moulton ll. Fowler. Kneeling: B. Bernhardt. These are the teams Although our basketball team won only one game this year, many of the underelassmen gained valuable experience and the team was built up great- ly for the future. During the season, there were many times when we were ahead at the end of the first half only to fall behind and lose by a small margin. We lost eleven games, with the margin get- ting closer and closer until we meet Mancelona. We were out to win, and win we did by fifteen points. We lost to Pellston in the tournaments to end a suc- cessful season as far as gaining experience is con- eerned. Ken Garver. who led our team through the semi-finals last year, was again the outstanding member of our team. as he scored 110 points in only eight games alter recovering from a football injury. Ile was named on the All-Conference Team. George Coveyou also helped considerably, scoring 122 points in nine games. llarbor-50 Harbor-44 llarbor-39 Harbor-34 lla rbor-21 llarbor-20 llarbor-35 llarhor-45 llarbor-41 llarbor-59 llarbor--55 llarbor-6-1 llarbor-31 llarbor-41 llarbor-42 llarbor-33 Tournament llarbor-37 St. Francis-52 Pellston-61 East Jordan-59 Grayling-62 St. Francis-40 Charlevoix-80 Mancelona-68 Gaylord-64 Pellston-48 East Jordan-63 Grayling-57 Nlancelona--151 Boyne City-64 Gaylord-47 Charlevoix-54 Rayne City-57 Pellston-55 JUNIOR-JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM-First ROW: R. THE GREAT KING By Ken Garver Like a great king, he sits upon the bluff The school, with all his subjects C a punl His kingdom consists of rooms, teachers, and books, And trophies from the basketball games he's won. On through he years he stands, His guiding light of learning always shiningg And more will come, and more will go Their pictures on the walls that they are lining. We, too, his loyal subjects, Are reaching toward our goal. Like the class of 58 , we'll graduate, And take our class money and go. -72- ya -51 fl. u.- ,. L.., , .
