if? ii, :S Harbor Springs High School, Harbor Springs, Michigan Rampage of 195 l g FOREWORD Looking back in the history of football at Harbor Springs we have found that the first recorded football game took place on October 5, 1918. Harbor lost to Boyne City and Charlevoix, but we did win from Petoskey with the big score of 10-0. Since 1918, Har- bor has improved very much in football. We have a new stadium called the Ottawa Indian Stadium which seats people from all over northern Michigan. It takes a great deal of practice, hard work, and patience to put a year book out, just as it does to make a good football team. We are proud to present the 1958 Rampage to you completely based on a football game. So, what are we waiting for? Let's get start- ed with the game! Dedication MR. WILLIAM WALKER Mr. and Mrs. William Walker To our principal, Mr. Walker, we respectfully dedicate this yearbook. We wish to thank him for the help he has given his students. He is the athletic director and has helped our cheerleaders and basketball team obtain new uniforms, as well as performing the many routine duties ol this job. Mr. Walker is also the advisor of the student council. Because ot all he has done, we would like to award him the highest honor that is in our power to bestow, the dedication of the i958 RAMPAGE. -3- Memorial STANLEY HOWARD TAYLOR The RAMPAGE staff of nineteen-hundred and fifty-eight wish to pay tribute in this annual to the memory of Stanley Taylor, who on February 14, 1955 went to a far better place than we have ever known. He started a Bible Christian Club for boys from eight to twelve years of age. He was a cheerful and willing helper, and a good friend to everyone who knew him. -4- The Excitement of a Night Virginia Andrews The time of year we live to behold While colored leaves of green do fall On our field and seats so cold. Seen passing to and fro is our ball When the sun is setting and nothing more to say The wonderful colors are in the west. Many others do the same: but far away. So we all will try and do our best. When hurt and fallen on the grass he doth lie Others are seen. both tall and strong. Many stopping to help others passing. Our end is near, we will not have to wait long, Each parent and friend watches his son. Everyone will be glad when the game is won. Fa rewell Mary Belle Tippett Farewell! Oh. how I hate to go! I really like you so. Memories you have given me of Things that never more will be. So many things there were to do. But I must go to something new. I must say good-bye To ol' Harbor High. June brings graduation. And to all I give congratulations. So Long Edith Juilleret Now's the time-we're bugging out, All the kids begin to shout. All the teachers jump with glee. 'Cause June 8 they will be free. Our laughter will no longer ring. Our school song we'll no longer sing. Our presence and our cheers at games When taken away. they seem so tame. We will no longer sit in class And wonder. how long can it last? The worries and problems of our High school days Will soon be fading away in the haze. To underclassmen we say farewell. We hope you will survive to tell How the class of '58 came through. Their colors flying in the blue. -5... 1 Table of Contents Foreword ..... Dedication ...... Memorial ..... We entered the third quarter of the big game under the leadership ot our captain, Bob Bernhardt. and co-captain. Gerald Wells. Ann Cole kept track of our meetings and other activities, with Ronald Niswander as our treasurer. Our first excitement was caused by the arrival of our class rings. Before we had quite recovered from that. we built a float tor the homecoming parade, which won first prize with the motto, Harbor Will Erupt Tonight. Soon atter. on November 23, we had our Sadie Hawkins Dance, and a little later we sold concessions at the Grayling football game. During Christmas vacation we had a turkey rattle. During the basketball sea- son, we kicked up a little more yardage with our concessions at the C.har1evoix and Grayling games. Our junior play. HEADIN' FOR A WEDDIN'. was presented March 28 and 29. Later, on April 19. we had our Junior-Senior Banquet and then toward the very end of the quarter. we sponsored the J-Hop on May 3. -20- - :a.5.e..., A' M S. Adams B. Bliss P. Cook A. Greenier D. After the district tournament, the men teachers received butch hair cuts and the lady teachers dyed their hair red. When we won the Regional, the junior girls tinted their hair silver and the senior girls dyed their hair orange and black. There were large celebrations in the streets, where a iuke box was blaring rock and roll tunes and the old as well as the young danced, yelled, and set oft fire' crackers until 2 a.m. The town bought us many steak dinners.
