DECLAMATION CONTESTS In the past. programs given by the H. H. S. have been for the sake of entertainment. This year a marked change has taken place. Former customs have been set aside and literary development has been made the primary aim. Earl McConnell Class Song Anna Anderson, Ethel Gillen, and Earl McConnell were the successful contestants. Anna Anderson Selection by the Orchestra Anna Anderson of the Senior Class received the first prize, a half eagle; Russell Miller of the Junior Class, the second prize, a quarter eagle. Those chosen tn represent the Seiiiurs in the Senittlt-Jttilittl' Debate were Ruth Carr. Harry Skiing. and Harold Hills. The Juniors held their preliminary on Feb. 26, 1914, their subject heing, ltRosnlved that the L'nited States should intervene in Mexico. The :thirimttive speakers were John Close. Aini Kottari, and John Grant; the negative were, Rus- sell Miller. izilph McConnell and Richard tle Noble. The at'- tirmative wun. The speakers Chusen as the class representai tives were tinssell Miller. Richard tle NUllGl. and John Close On March L7, 19H. the intercluss debate was held, the subject being iesolved that the eity manager form of govern- ment should he adopted by Ashtahulzi. The Seninrs took the negative and the Juninrs the uttirmative. The. latter won by a twcrto-mie vote. A Silver iming cup was awarded to the winners. This will be held by the class until they are defeated. The rlelmtes were much enjoyed by the students and it is hoped that they will be cuntinued hy the coming classes, Next year Harbor High expects IO enter the circle of inter- scholastic debate and thus brmulen our field of schtml activities.
