(orewoF cj The task of selecting a theme for the yearbook is indeed a difficult one. Yearbook staffs in the past have wrestled with this problem, and the staff of 1964 was no exception. Its main objective for the selection of a theme was to find a single factor which has affected our lives to the greatest extent. This was a broad proposition and we realize now that to find such a single objective was an impossible task, because to express the phrases which grew most frequently out of our frustrated attempts, ”. . . things have changed so.” The key word in this simple familiar is change. Since September, I960, we have been molded and remolded into ever changing personalities. Let us glance for a moment at some of the multiplicity of changes that have affected us since the year I960. Our society has been the major target for change. During the past few years there’s been a mobility among classes of people that was not dreamed possible in 1942. As you turn the pages of this book and look at the photographs of members of the graduating class of 1964, no doubt you will recall the active part played by these individuals in bringing about a better way of life for those who live on and around our campus. Magnificent progress has been made because of these various endeavors . . . the seniors experienced change. The great men of science are forever scheming, studying, experimenting, and testing to advance the media of scientific dis¬ covery. In the four year period between I960 and 1964, you as seniors have seen the great changes that have taken place in space exploration. During the year of 1962, the nation anxiously awaited reports of the propulsion of the first American into space. The educational world is ever changing and has changed since our freshman year. At the time of entrance, the Bac¬ calaureate Degree represented a major achievement. Seniors have discovered that because of the strenuous academic demands, there is a requirement for more knowledge gained at a faster pace. Every senior feels that he must, and that it is necessary to go beyond the Baccalaureate Degree, to enrich his own personal life and to keep abreast with the constant changing events of the world. Accepting the premise that change is inevitable, the 1964 Hamptonian Staff has attempted to formulate a frame of ref¬ erence for the content which follows on the next 206 pages. Patsy O.
