HAMPTON INSTITUTE HAMPTON, VIRGINIA OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT October 11, 1961 Dear Seniors: I am very happy to salute the members of the Class of 1962 as they prepare to leave their ' home by the sea ' and become a part of the world of tomorrow. You are completing your college education at a very interesting period in history. It may be akin to the period of the Renaissance which symbolizes the rebirth of art and learning in Europe during the 14th, 15th, and 16th centuries. In contemporary life, we find that man is curiously seeking the answers to hidden mysteries which have been ignored or neglected for centuries. The success of this research places man on the threshold of a new era. This will be a part of your life. Hampton Institute has given you the necessary experiences to prepare you for a vital role in the social order of the future. We are confident of your success in pursuit of the goals of the good life. Your education is moving from the area of the baccalaureate degree to the informal and formal specialized types which increase your potentials to make a contribution to the welfare of mankind.
