Our year Zlufrfld . . . The veteran class enters school on September 7th. On September 6, 1960, many new faces entered our Alma Mater. Eight hundred sophomores walked be- wilderedly down the long halls, armed with maps and a new schedule of classes. The teachers, having worked several days already, were eager to meet their new students. The following day the "veteran" classes, the new iuniors and the seniors, returned for another year of hard work, study, and fun. For some this year would be the last, for others it was iust the beginning. Many sentiments are felt as our year unfolds. I .rhsiae-Z 3.-........... I0 Last summer, eighteen iuniors represented Hampton High School at the Virginia American Legion Boys' and Girls' State held at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. In the course of a week, these seven girls and eleven boys learned the fundamentals of State and city gov- ernment. They adopted charters in their cities, and ran the city under the leadership of their mayor. l Later in the week the two political parties, the Nationalists and the Federalists, nominated candidates in the State conventions to run for State offices. After many political rallies and the election, the new Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General were inaugurated with appropriate ceremonies. An inaugural Ball at Radford College climaxed the week's activities.
