Donna McCann. Secretary Robert Shuart, Vice-President Eugene Finley, President Karoline Emilson. Treasurer 1,1 September of '49 saw a group of struggling young Freshmen enter high school to become the present Class of '53-. In this year. under Bobby Obroch- ta. president, we held a dance and bake sale. These were far overshadowed, however, by the fact that we were grow- ing up. The boys started trying out for sports, and the girls tried for cheerlead- mg. This fairly uneventful year ended finally and brought a more thrilling year in which we were able to do more things which we thought high school students should do. Vkfith Betty I-load as president, and an all girl slate of offic- ers. we succeeded in having two dances and a bake sale. However, with the coming of the end of the year we ordered our class rings and a fortunate few were tapped for Honor Society. Vv'ith these bright spots our Sophomore year closed. Bob Shuart acted as president in our Junior year and both he and the year proved to be good ones. Again we featured dances and a bake sale. This year, though, we added stationery sales to raise our treasurer's report. We really grew up this year and in doing so helped plan the Junior-Senior Prom and completely planned the Junior-Senior Banquet. With our new growth. the Senior Class decided they couldn't do without us. and so, chose two from our class to be in their Senior Play, "Cheaper by the Dozen." The year ended with two big events for all. although they both dealt with only a few students di- rectly. ln May Mike Linehan and Betty Hoad, with the aid of two very good campaign managers. campaigned for Student Council President. Also in May Mike Linehan and Donna McCann. along with three runners-up traveled to Syracuse University to the Citizenship Conference. With the close of this very eventful year, we again entered the Hammonds- port portals as the Senior Class. This year we chose Eugene Finley to represent us as our president. Again we helped plan the Junior-Senior Prom, but weren't allowed around the Juniors when they were planning the banquet. However, this didn't dampen our spirits. ln this time Eugene McCann rose to be our star basketball player and several of our girls started sporting diamonds. Our good citizens again went to Syracuse University and brought back what they learned for the rest to hear. Several of our fellow students were fortunate to receive scholarships which we're sure will be put to good use. While getting ready to close this chapter of our lives, we put on the play, "He Done Her Wrong." To record our contributions and to leave our impression on all who would see. we leave our '53 Yearbook for a reminder of having spent our high school years and the best years of our lives here in Hammondsport Central School. 14
