THF RI- D CROSS IW OUR HICH SLHOOL VVe are entntled to be called a Red Lross Hugh School because every student m our burldmg has jomed the Jumor Red Cross But most of the Hrgh School grrls were unwxllmg to stop there The boys may be able to work harder rn the war gardens ln the sprxng and through the heat of the summer and earn more money for thrxft stamps and Y Ill C, A contrlbutlons but to the gxrls the Red Cross work ls better sulted A number of umor and Semor gxrls have grouped themselves together m a Surgucal Dressmg Class whlch meets every Thursday ewenmg at the Red Cross Rooms m the Hammond Bu1ld1ng After thoroughly w ashmg thenr hands and donmng caps and aprons the gzrls are ready to work They have made two k1nds of bandages al ready The class closes at nme oclock but the members often vol untarlls work later The sewmg classes of thls school are laymg asrde all therr own work to do the Red Cross work They have made a large number of bags and have hemmed an endless number of towels for the Red Lross hospitals The work for the Belglan refugee chrldren and therr mothers though the hardest IS perhaps the most mterestmg work they have done Among the garments they have made are twenty four womens housedresses eighteen blue corduroy suxts for that all the materrals used to make these articles were purchased by the money whlch was turned m for Red Cross membershlps for the school VVe feel that lt could not haue been spent IH a better w ay The work rn kmttmg proceeds m the sewmg classes and out and the motto of the school from the smallest freshman to Mlss Bassett herself seems to be Kmt and do your bxt THRIFT LLUBS Every member of the hrgh school belongs to a thrxft club every member of the hlgh school ns helpmg to wrn the war and at the same tame IS learmng how to save On Aprrl 22 the total amount of monev saved by the students w as three hundred and twenty three dol lars Thxs means that three hundred and twenty three dollars most of whrch would have been spent for 1ce cream candy and other lxttle luxurxes has been saved and ns now bemg used by the government ln the prosecutlon of the war In order to create more enthusrasm nn the thrrft orgamzatxons and to encourage consclentlous and systematnc savmg the rewards of havmg their pxctures rn the annual were offered to the two clubs showing the best splrlt and regularlty m thelr savlng 'I he wmmng club IS the Thrnfty Thnft Club of whlch Sylvra Pederson ns treas urer On April 22 thus club had saved fifty four dollars and thlrty five cents The orgamzatlon rankmg second IS the Alpha Club of whxch Helen Powelson I9 treasurer Thls club on April 22 had saved forty four dollars S2 0 S d.R , I l ' . 1 l .
