GLAS5 HISH OR V In nineteen hundred and thirty-five, thirty-two little faces entered the old building across the way. As all other youngsters starting to sohool, we were very excited. We entered the first grade room to find smiling face greeting us. The smiling face was none other than Miss Ann Smith, now known as Mrs. 0. C. Campbell. This year passed quickly with many pleasant memories and we felt that we were about the beat educated first graders ever to be promoted to the second grade. The next year we were under the leadership of Mrs. Thelma Bums. This year brought more excitement and it was another step toward our final day of graduation. The third grade greeted us with a charming young lady, Mias Pauline Curry, who is now the sweet little wife of Mr. Hall. This year was marked by the race between J. D. Carper and Mrs. HaII around the room. I don't think she ever did catch him. We were sent to the fourth grade (probably by mistake) and Miss Mabel Gillenwater was to be our instructor. Bob Vande Linde got pretty windy this year and told some tales that lasted for weeks. Don't tell anyone, but I don't think he has run down yet, or that he ever will. In the fifth grade we were under the guidance of Mr. Walton Smith and we had a lot of fun. As time went on we became smarter, meaner, and a lot larger, as most kids do. In the sixth grade we were taught by Mrs. Evelyn Adkins, Mr. Chapman, Miss Booth, (who married this year) Miss Lillie Thompson, and Mr. Dorsey Martin. It was in this year that Coach Martin started the boys on their way in the basketball world. We were now the big shots of the graded school and ready for Junior High School. At last we found ourselves entering the front door of the old Hamlin High School. We had as our sponsor Mrs. Martha Carson, whose place was later taken by Mrs. Opal Jarrett. This was a thrilling year because it was our first year to be spent in the Hamlin High School. In the eighth grade we found Miss Frances Fulcher and Mrs. Flo B. Van Horn to be our sponsors. This was the year we had those famous debates, and our two outstanding speakers were none other than Charles Elkins and Joe Childers, «ho knows, maybe someday they will be debating in Congress? We wonder if Mrs. Vance is still praying for God to have a second Judgment day, because Bob Yeager would never get there for the first one he was always, late for history class. This year we were really going places—the boys were playing basketball on the Junior High and Senior High School team. In our freshman year Mrs. Van Horn and Miss Fulcher remained with us. Miss Fulcher's place was later taken by Mrs. Gladys Messinger, who was re- placed by Miss Pauline Adkins. The next year we were sophomores. This year will always stand out in our minds because it was the year we studied about bugs, bugs, and more bugs and listened to the remark, oh Tut, you are the dumbest Biology class I have ever had . We are sorry, Mrs. Van Horn, that we caused you so many gray hairs. Our sponsors were Mrs. Daphne Deitr and Mrs. Shirley Toppings.
