We have had twelve years filled with work, play, smiles, and tears. We feel that we have gained much from our experiences together, and it is with a great deal of sentimentality that we present this - our class historv. First Year-It is a strange, new world. We meet each day in a large room filled with desks and books. We have learned to read of Dick and Jane, and some- times, if we are good, we are allowed to color. Allyn Cortright has a huge box of crayons but he doesn't color with them. He throws them at Sandy Crowell, a rather tall fellow who has had to sit in the corner twice. Ilene Gunter was caught eating a piece of toast in class, she said she didn't have time to finish her breakfast. Nanette Atkinson and Diana Holland got in a terrific fight to- day, it seems that Diana wanted to be first in jump-rope. We couldn't under- stand why Peggy Clark's mother carried her into class today, but Peggy said something about a Charley Horse bit- ing her leg. Second Year-Without a doubt, Joe Hogan keeps the messiest desk in class. Brainy Brenda Jenkins always makes 100 on spelling and today Nancy Polk got all her arithmetic problems right. Hoda Levine is continually arguing with some- one and today she and Elizabeth Warr almost came to blows. They both wanted to stand next to William Land in the lunchline. We have learned to play hop- scotch and Sandra Clark is current champion, she defends her title against Gwen Raby next week. Jimmy Kirkley walks home with a different girl each day, but he's losing his reputation as Casanova to a new boy, Dabney Crad- dock. who keeps the girls guessing. Third Year-We are having a most difficult time with the multiplication table. Sarah Ellen Gordon worries Norman Gibson to death asking him to explain it to her. Sharon Peck, Jewel Gardner, and Mickey Hancock are the best hitters on the soft- ball team, and Linda Liles throws a mean curve. Bonnie Anderson prefers jack-rocks to the more energetic sports, she and Loleata Brooks can be seen play- ing every day during recess. We have a musician in our midst-Billy Gill can play every instrument in our rhythm band and is gnmmimes allowed to direct. Fourth Year-Learning to write longhand is no easy task, but Judy Altman gives everyone else an inferiority complex. Jimmy Brittingham, the walking Uni- vac, surprised us by knocking three homeruns. Of course, John Poole is still the No. 1 athlete and has many girl- friends, as a result. Shirley Morse and Roberta Walker drew a mural on the blackboard and John Howe was so rude as to ask what it was! We have all de- cided that Linda Clarke bears some re- semblance to Cinderella with her long blonde hair. Fifth Year-Bobby Moore and Gerald Cook, two new students, impress us very much. Bobby knows much about history, and Gerald charms the teacher with his man- ners. It seems that some of us didn't do too well on our math exam, but we didn't feel too bad until it was announced that Billy Horne made 100. Jay Austin is the only boy in class who can make an oral book report last thirty minutes. Sixth Year-Warren Calloway has estab- lished himself as another Rembrandt by painting a beautiful Christmas scene. Michael Hendrick informs Hoda Levine that she looks horrible in glasses. There are numerous parties of the Gir1s-Sit- On-One-Side-Boys-On-The-Other t y p e. We are practicing hard on our May Day programs. Seventh Year-We live in another world now -a world of parties and dates. Wendy Pate is the latest lady-killer. Allyn Cort- right has discovered cars and drives his jalopy all over his farm. Claudia Duncan says that she would rather dance than eat. Janice Parks, otherwise known as Teddy , is becoming an intellectual. Reading interests Jimmy McEwen more than anything-except hunting. Hunt- ing interests Bill Stubbs more than any- thing except girls. SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Eighth Year-This is the year of mischief. Jimmy Rachels was caught crawling out of class. A group of girls popped a bag of popcorn for a special cloakroom feast. Two new girls, Sara Harris and Janis Colbert, have joined our company and we are now initiating them into the ways of the world. We have decided that we are ready to leave the good old days of childhood and go on to something bigger and better - high school! Our Commencement Exercises will be the climax to a wonderful year. Ninth Year-The first days of high school were so wonderful, but now we realize that school is school and means plenty of work. Rudy Singletary charms Mrs. Ballenberger and manages to get an A on Latin. Catherine Smith's height makes her a valuable intramural basket- ball player. Carolyn Matthews and Susan Scarborough have developed the ability to study and impress all of us. Lynn Steen is the Einstein of the mathematics world. The band is fortunate in having David Millson, Charles Brown, Sandy Crowell, and Jack Fetner as versatile members. Wanda Lizard McManus drives Mrs. Hamilton crazy. Carroll Gar- ner is Miss Winstead's right-hand man. Tenth Year-Larry Wallace, Sammy Whit- ley, and Johnny Cowan love to diagram sentences for Mrs. Wagner. Homecom- ing was quite a rainy day and the floats, which had been the objects of so much work, were a soggy mess. Floyd Smith is a familiar sight in the library. Homer Smith and Billy Rich are the greatest Latin translators since the days of Julius Caesar! Such a stack of books as Coleman Shelton carries would make Superman collapse. Cartha Fetzer has been welcomed as another sophomore and she and Carolyn Carpenter can be seen passing notes back and forth. Eleventh Year-Billy Bowen and Ronnie Adams find underclassmen quite attrac- tive. Richard Lassiter and Mrs. Gibson get along famously, but James David Maples, Rodney Hendley, and Larry Har- din have to count to ten. Jane McEwen, Ann McKeithan, Portia Wooten, and Daphne Zilonka are avid French stu- dents. Beth Utter's fans are thrilled by her guarding tactics in basketball games. The V.I.P.'s on our football team are Lee Suggs, Arthur Martin, and Buck Hodges. Billy Thompson is the very de- pendable manager of the baseball team. Emma Cowan is intensely interested in the tenth grade. At the end of every month Donald Caulder is found in the office working on his bus driver's re- port. Vance Mann has moved to town and is already a member of the track team. What's the commotion? Why, it's the gang ooh-ing and ah-ing over Billy McDuffie's fabulous French paintings. Twelfth Year-Sara Harris is working like mad on her annual with William Land always ready to lend a hand. Yvonne Wilson proudly displays her diamond, while Ora Tarlton, Loleata Hayes, and Brenda Thomas talk blissfully of mar- ried life. Three lovely flagbearers for our band are Judy Corbett, Linda Mon- roe, and Jeanne Long who get bleary- eyed whenever the alma mater is played. Lanny Jacobs, Jerry Hodges, and Frank Andrews are very much impressed with Mrs. Bauersfeld's Early Morning Class. Mrs. Bauersfeld is impressed with the conscientious work of Martha Jacobs. Kay Roberts, Virginia Steen, Phyllis Smith, and Jo Ann Steele find the cloak- room ideal for private discussions. Nelta Crump can tell the funniest jokes you ever heard. Our favorite couple, Frankie Nowlan and Pokey, never seem to dis- agree. The Quiet Ones, Sonny Patton and Charles McKeithan, are content with just being Seniors, but Bert Russ has appointed himself Mr. Ambassador of Good Will. Chemistry fascinates Carol Odom who sometimes, however, takes time out for a little gossip. We are all eagerly awaiting Graduation Day. Another year is gone, another class is pass- ing through the door to the future. It is im- possible to fully express how much our teachers, friends, and school have meant to us, but we should like to thank you for your continued guidance and understanding.
