The Steinert varsity baseball squad, under the direction of Coach Dick Leber, Viewed the coming season with great optimism. Although the squad had but one returning letterman, Don Bills, the team members felt that a good season was in the offing. Along with Don, the team boasts a cat-quick infield with short-stop Walt Radomski, second baseman Gary VanDeusen, and first-sacker Bob Cunningham. Back-stop Steve Gould calls the signals for the Spartan hurlers who include Neil Bednar, Gary Strohauer and Tommy Scudder. Roving the outfield for the green and white are Rich Giallela, Joe Cesario and Ron Zoltanski. At the present time the Spartans do seem set for an excellent season, but only time can tell. CPI-Veteran coach Ed and, hoping to improve upon year's final tally of 4-4, again was welcomed by the largest turn-out of hopefuls for a Spartan sport. This year's team members have been rated by Coach Marchand' as one of the finest group of boys to report for practice. Three weight- men, - Don Watson, a discus thrower, Carl Nugent, a shot ut 7? Events p - ter, and Bob Nielsen, a javelin thrower, were named to guide the Spartan tracksters at the helm of co-captains.. Other prospective can- didates who have shone potential are junior half-miler, Dick Bartlet, and a sophomore high jumper, Lenzy Morris. In the polevault the team members have high hopes for senior Bob Grosse, while a sopho- more, Eric Guido, is being counted on to add valuable points in the hurdles. Other possible candidates include dashmen, Cliff Harbourt, Bob Murranka, and a quarter-miler, Russell Lokosky.
