Although the team was dominated by underclass- men supplemented by only four returning lettermen, the Spartan kickers showed the spirit and hustle necessary for a winning season. Pitted against teams of superior experience, the green and white men accepted the challenge and' came through with outstanding games against this year's state champs, Trenton, and our always powerful rival, Hamilton. The offense was sparked by small but mighty senior Bob Parr with seven goals, while captain Bill Hoagland combined leadership with hustle and drive to lead the Spartan defend- ers. Post season honors came to fullback Bill Hoagland and wingman Tom Gilsanen when they were named to the all- city team. 138
