.aa .away Under the guidance of Mrs. Frances Gauntt, another year of Steinert oratory has come to a close. However, Steinert did its share of the talking and came out ahead. At the National For- ensic League District Tournament in March, John Cody, a jun- ior, won first place in Extemporaneous Speaking and brought home two trophies, one for Steinert and one for himself. The c1ub's president, Thomas Rossi, also won first place, but in Ora- torical Interpretation. Tom also brought home two trophies. This was a state contest and it was estimated that about three hundred New Jersey students participated. This is one example of the good speaking this club has done this year. The members of this organization are seniors who have obtained honor averages for at least three and possibly .four of their high school years. Those pictured here re- ceived their pins at the end of their junior year. Under the expert guidance of Mr. Bertram Mott, the society has advanced to become a member of the National Honor Society. The students in our newly established chapter were selected by a committee of administrators and faculty. This spring an induction cere- mony conducted by the officers of our sister school, Hamilton High West, was held to officially proclaim our new affiliation. ' i The work of the Honor Society is centered around graduation. The mem- bers, under the direction of Mr. Mott, are responsible for selecting the theme, writing the program and supervising the activities and progress of this most important event. This year, due to the increasingly large number of seniors, the graduation exercises will be held outdoors, a change which will greatly increase the difficulty of this task.
