Our Soccer Hhampians Under the direction of Coach Pivovarnick, Steinert's varsity soccer team completed the l959 season with an enviable II-2-5 record. Continuing its success against local rivals, the team became City Champions for the second time in the two year history of the school. The Spartan squad defeated Irvington Tech 2-O in the first round of the state elimination tournament only to be turned back by a strong Verona eleven 2-O. Instrumental to the team's success were Gary Parker and John Griffiths who provided the Spartan booter's scoring punch. Parker, who tied for county high-scoring honors, had a total of I6 goals. Griffiths was second on the team with 7. Not to be overlooked are Bruce Grocott, Ed Weissenburger, Bill Davies, and Jim Griffiths, who were named to the first all-city team.
