WAYNE SCHENCK HARRY PORTER GEORGE SAAMS TOClsle Center Back Hail 270 Un: Varsity Although accompanied by some disappointments, Steinert's first season in varsity football competition was a good one, Coach Wilno's squad climaxed the season by turning back our arch-rival Hamilton 20-13 to provide an over-all record of 3 wins and 5 losses, ln the Spartan backfield was the powerful combination of Bob Mucciarelli, Jerry Buron, Rick Danser, and Don Dilatush, Strong playing in the line was supplied by Lou Maressa, John Kelly, Wayne Schenck, Joe Rosina, Ron Schuck, Bill Delate, and Dave Badeau. Due to Bob Zarr's broken leg, Larry Migliaccio was relied upon heavily in the offensive end position. Bob Mucciarelli, the team captain, had the additional honor of being chosen as a member of the first all-city team. Our Soccer Hhampians Under the direction of Coach Pivovarnick, Steinert's varsity soccer team completed the l959 season with an enviable II-2-5 record. Continuing its success against local rivals, the team became City Champions for the second time in the two year history of the school. The Spartan squad defeated Irvington Tech 2-O in the first round of the state elimination tournament only to be turned back by a strong Verona eleven 2-O. Instrumental to the team's success were Gary Parker and John Griffiths who provided the Spartan booter's scoring punch. Parker, who tied for county high-scoring honors, had a total of I6 goals. Griffiths was second on the team with 7. Not to be overlooked are Bruce Grocott, Ed Weissenburger, Bill Davies, and Jim Griffiths, who were named to the first all-city team.
