During our short stay here many changes have taken place. SeV- eral buildings have been remodelled or improved. New sports have been introduced and the college spirit kindled to greater enthusiasm. But half of the present faculty were here when we entered. Death and removal have caused many vacancies. But these have been carefully and wisely filled, and the faculty was never stronger, Hami1ton's pros- pects never brighter than to-day. As editors ive are conscious of our many faults and dehciencies. Reader, pardon these. liflditorial, in HE all too fleeting years have brought the class of '94 to the priv- ileges and responsibilities of upper classman dignity. We thorough- ly enjoy the former: we have never neglected the latter. Among other duties that devolve upon us is the publication of our college annual, 'With all due modesty the editors take up the task. lVe feel that there is a peculiar responsibility upon us. Hamilton, we realize, is going to the fore, and in order to keep pace with thc march of im- provement, it is essential that Tl-I1-1 HfXRIlI,'l'l7NIAN, that 'tmirror of col- lege lifef' should take a stride in advance. H Excelsior 'l has been the motto of each year's board, and our ambition has been to climb one round higher toward the acme of perfection. VVe have sought to compile a book of interest to both undergradu- ates and alumni. We have reproduced the events of the college year, set forth the features peculiar to old Hamilton, heralded the records of our athletic teams and tried to encourage our students to new endeav- ors. So much for the undergraduate. On the other hand, every son of the college will be glad to possess our sketch of President Stryker: to see his genial face greeting him from our pages. Many will learn with pleasure of the new scientific course, its history and prospects, while all will feel their youth renewed by the many touches and reminders of college days. - , XVe have tried also to raise the literary standard of our publication, to give its readers more of sketch, fiction and poetry. Writers of for- mer years have again contributed to our pages, and many new pens have been called upon for articles. To all of these the editors are duly grateful. I 3
