Coach Coleman first came to Hamburg as an as- sistant under Don Crews for several years, before leaving Hamburg for Smackover. Later, he came back to Hamburg as junior high coach. Now, as head senior coach, his leading records can partly be attributed to his winning attitude and interest in his work. In 1972, he was named “Coach of the Year.” Since then, he has continued to turn out 8-A A championship teams. Some of his winning records are 5-3-1, 8-3, 8-2, and 7-1-3. Winning the 8-AA title has always been a dream in Hamburg, and he, along with some fine players made it come true. 3 To H.H.S., Seasons Bring . . . LEFT TO RIGHT. The Lion of ’75 reflects many memories which we will treasure for years to come. The spirit of togetherness which you exemplified in completing this publication in- spires me to place more confidence in you to leave this world a better place than you found it. We are saddened for the second year in a row by the loss of another one of our fine students. He will be remembered for what he added to our spirit of togetherness as well as for his other personal achievements. 1 will always cherish my past and future asso- ciations with you and other members of the stu- dent body. Your lives are near and dear to me and have added much purpose to my life. Sincerely, B. W. Allbritton, Jr. SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS Mr. B. W. Allbritton. Jr. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE In our times just an education is not enough. There is much more to a successful life than getting an education and making money. On your journey toward maturity you must learn self-reliance and respect for yourself and others. You must learn what it means to “Pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.” You must learn to rely on a divine being when human resources are no longer sufficient. You must learn the suprem- acy of right over wrong and how to apply this in your relations with your fellow being. All these things and others are the reason we exist here at Hamburg High School. J. W. Hall HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL Mr. J. W. Hall Mr. Shelby Harrod came to Hamburg in 1955 as the senior high basketball coach and junior high football coach. Before coming to Hamburg he had served as basketball coach at Hermitage and Til- lar. In 1970. he became principal of the newly organized Hamburg Middle School. In addition to Mr. Harrod's duties as principal, he continues to serve as the head basketball coach for the senior high boys. Mr. Bobby Harper came to Hamburg in 1973 from Crossett, where he was the senior high boys' basketball coach. His qualifications include a B.S.E. from the University of Arkansas at Mon- ticelloand a M.S.E. from Arkansas State Univer- sity. Although Mr. Harper is involved in many activities, he finds time to work as a youth leader. This year he served as sponsor of the Hamburg Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In 1974, the Hamburg Board of Education faced many problems. But by working closely with the faculty and students, they were able to resolve these problems and continue their respon- sibilities. The school board has many duties in several different areas. Personnel, financial, and stu- dent-teacher relationships are just a few. The members of this board work very hard to keep the Hamburg School System run- ning smoothly. But this didn’t last long when they found it would be busier than ever. With the spirit-drive, pictures to be taken, a play to be performed, invitations to be selected, and tests and banquets . . . they soon found the year to be filled with activities. The Seniors this year have accomplished a lot as a class as well as individually. The year they had all awaited anxiously for was now over before they knew it. They walked down the aisle on May 19, 1975 with diplomas in hand and a starry look to the future. With 130 boys holding member- ships, this year's F.F.A. chapter proved to be one of the most active ever. The upperclassmen helped in- itiate the ninth graders and were very active in parliamentary proce- dure and judging contests. In addition to all the hard work they still had time to honor their fathers and the two F.F.A. Sweethearts at a fishfry in May. Mr. Franklin served as faculty advisor. THIRTEENTH IN A SERIES How we profit from 9 million tons of leftovers. This year. Georgia-Pacific will sell, use or recycle more than 9 million tons of wood chips, shavings, sawdust, trim from paper mills, bark, and other leftovers. Some of the leftovers are used as fuel to power G-P mills But most of the wood wastes are converted into useful, profitable products: Pulp and paper. Particleboard and hardboard. Ground mulch Charcoal briquets. Roofing materials. Even food flavor- ings and medicines We've found many profitable uses for leftovers—materials that would have been dis- carded only a few years ago. And this has also allowed us to substantially reduce burning as a means of disposal, a source of air pollution. Sawdust, chip fines, and sander dust have always been difficult to dispose of. In the past, these tiny particles were simply burned. And some are still used as fuel. But today we re also using these materials to make panelboard —an entirely new engineered board manufactured by a patented continuous cylindri- cal press process. These wood residues are blended with G-P resin then bonded together under heat and pressure, producing a rigid, thin board ideal for door skins, core stock, wall paneling, commercial and residential remodeling, and other applica- tions. And only a few years ago. the materials to make panelboard were considered useless. Waste. At G-P. we're working to utilize as much of our valuable resources as possible. If a leftover seems useless, we find a use for it. Just as we're using 9 million tons of wood residues this year. Because, when leftovers are treated with a little imagination, they really aren't leftovers at all. This is another way imagina- tion pays for Georgia-Pacific. And for you. GEORGIA-PACIFIC. IMAGINATION is an informative review of trie Company s extensive corporate, financial and community advertising program depicting the full rango of G-P s Imagination ' efforts. With the help of Mrs. White and our dedicated staff, we’ve tried to do our best. We have made a few changes this year that we thought the student body would appreciate. Our goal has been to improve, and whether we have or not is your decision. Having juniors on the Lion staff this year has provided a greater representation of our school. We feel that this experience will benefit them greatly nqxt year. We deeply appreciate Mrs. White for her patience and her willingness to listen. Thank you students of HHS for making this Lion ’75 possible.
