Third row: Singing filled our ears with pleasure After a year's absence, Hamburg High again had a choir. Many students had the opportunity to display their vocal talents by enrolling in this course. This group was trained in the various vocal techniques and skills necessary to develop such an organization. Under the excellent direc- tion of Mrs. Catherine Fiero, the group became a very melodic and harmonic addition to our music department, and delighted audiences with their creative abilities. We owe our thanks to this group for inspiring our football team and livening the crowds with their pep songs. The Annual Christmas Concert was extremely beautiful. The Spring Concert featured Urbie Green, iazz trombonist, from New York City. The H.H.S. Skillful hands printed, welded, and Created Our industrial arts program oFFers 'courses for any interested students, whether he is considering it for a career or as an added skill. Mr. Scruton instructs graphic arts classes, which also take care of the school printing, and metalcraft. Under the supervision of Mr. Coville the students learn to recognize and appreciate the quality of wood workmanship. They learn to use and control power machinery to make their first project of the year and later, advance to individual projects. In our academically-oriented school, industrial arts is not taught as a vocation, but as an elective, giving students an opportunity to learn through experience. Mr. Coville, Mr. Scruton Home Economics supplied us with a general home background Modernized techniques for today's world is the rule in Hamburg's homemaking classes. Interior Decorating, Child Care, and beginning and advanced courses in cooking and sewing are offered to prepare the girls for efficient and successful futures in careers and in homemaking. Special emphasis is placed on the basic Principles of food preparation and construction of clothing. Watson and Brogan explain the ABC'c ot music. Music is Music is Music. Mrs, Fiero, McRobert, Meyers, Brogan, Kolster, Bauman. Artistic styles were set in music classes A new note this year was the Enjoyment of Music course. Taught by Mrs. Fiero and Mr. Knaus, music of all types and periods, from the Renaissance to today, was studied- even electronic music! Another interesting set of courses this year was Com- prehensive Music. Instruction in rhythm, harmony and tone was ofitered. The course was divided into Theory I and ll, and Advanced Theory in which students composed music. They start us on the right note. Mr. Reichard, Mrs. Fiero, Mr. Knaus. Students' musical abilities were brought to life Under the direction of Mr. Knaus, Hamburg High School's orchestra participated in the Christmas Concert, the Homer Fiero Scholarship Concert, and the Chamber Music Concert. They traveled to several elementary schools and gave concerts there. The year's highlight was the final concert, which fea- tured contemporary American compositions. Soloists were Beth Watson, flute, Polly Horton, piano, and Diane Fiero, harp. Our guest conductor was Harry John Brown, from the State University of N. Y. at Fredonia. Knaus's Kapers.
