Business built a better foundation for our future Our business department is complete in every aspect. lt includes all necessary courses needed to compete in this busy world of today. Students taking a business maior have a wide variety of subiects from which to choose. They cover Business Arithmetic and bookkeeping, as well as shorthand, typing, OFfice Practice and Data Processing. Students in this department receive many helpful hints on what to expect in a modern business oFFice. They also have the use of modern business equipment such as dic- tating machines and both electric and manually operated typewriters. These enable them to further their skills. Graduates of these business courses may immediately qualify tor most types of oFtice iobs. Many students are able to find iobs even before they graduate. Others further their education in college. Math armed us to meet our everyday problems ln today's world of computers, lunar exploration, and advanced scientific research, mathematics is an increas- ingly important tool. Since the areas of application are constantly expanding, there is a need for a wide back- ground and knowledge of mathematics. The Mathematics Department in Hamburg has been providing for this demand by offering an excellent variety of courses. Students can work their ways from Elementary Algebra and Geometry, to the college-level courses of Analytical Geometry and the Calculus which is offered to ambitious students in the Advanced Placement program. Keeping pace with the advances in mathematics are the new ideas and methods being introduced. New types ot mathematical notation and a greater stress on number theory have been part of the curriculum.

Haberer, Fischer. Remedial and developmental reading taught by new teacher lf there were such a category as a born reader, many of us at Hamburg High would not qualify. Miss Knisley's valuable instruction, however, has rem- edied the reading problem in many cases and has made reading a ioy for those for whom it formerly held only boredom. The resource center and reading' lab are well-equipped with audio carrels, controlled readers and shadowscopes, as well as with many other frequently em- ployed aides and materials. This method of instruction and self-help holds benefit for all. Guidelines were drawn for future occupations ln this changing, demanding world, high school students are often beset by grave decisions: college choices, career placement and social adiustment, for ex- ample. The members of our capable guid- ance department offer counsel and sug- gestions to students of diverse personali- ties and capabilities. Their services include an excellent guidance library and career file, as well as group and individual con- ferences to help students with their per- sonal, occupational and academic prob- lems. Through the friendly smiles and kind assistance of Hamburg's guidance depart- ment, many students have had a much more profitable high school career.
