Mr. Spencer Ravel Principal Principal and students explored mutual problems For the past thirty-one years, Mr. Spencer W. Ravel has served the town cmd public school system of Hamburg well. ln l9-40, while he was principal of the iunior high school, he was also head coach of the high school football and basketball teams. Mr. Ravel became high school prin- cipal in l942, and although twice during his career as principal he temporarily left Hamburg High School to fight for our country in World War ll and later in the Korean War, he has continuously worked to maintain and improve our high school's status as an effective educational institu- tion. Under his wise guidance there has been a tremendous growth in our facilities and curriculum to meet the needs of an ever-growing student body. As a result of his leader- ship, Hamburg High School has advanced to become one of the finest secondary schools in the area. Mr. Ravel is a combination administrator, advisor, counselor and disciplinarian, but to many at Hamburg High, he is much more. He is a true friend to both students and faculty of our school. Sorry to interrupt . . .

Our leaders - academically and financially Holding his position as Superintendent of Hamburg schools since l957, Mr. Harry H. Hattan remains open- minded and continually searching for new ideas. ln his thirteen years with us he has helped a great deal in changing many ideas into reality. During this time the Junior High, Boston Valley, and Armor schools have been built. The ideas of remedial reading courses, child-develop- ment courses, HITV program, non-grading system, along with the admittance of handicapped children into schools have been developed. We oweha great deal to Mr. Hatten because of his interest and conviction in the worthwhile- ness of the individual. lt's what everyone needs. Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Personnel, Mr. Harry Erickson has the iob of being both co-ordinator and supervisor of all in-service courses and federally funded programs. He is also responsible for interviewing and placement of personnel along with observation and evaluation of teachers. Handling textbook and financial matters is Mr. Gerald Gerbracht, Assistant Superintendent for Business AFfairs. His door is always open to a student Mr. Lloyd S. Jayne, our Assistant Principal, came to Hamburg in 1945 as a teacher of Physics and Chemistry. Prior to that date, he taught mathematics and science in Holland Central School for thirteen years. A graduate of Hamilton College, Mr. Jayne has done graduate work at the University of Buffalo, Union College, and North Dakota State University. He coached both football and basketball at Hamburg for several years with the late Mr. William Rodiek. ln 1959, Mr. Jayne was appointed to the office of Assistant Principal. Since that time, he has seen our student body grow from nine hundred fifty students in grades nine through twelve, to its present number of one thousand, three hundred 'forty students in grades ten through twelve. He was instrumental in planning the new wing to our school in 1961, and is now working with Mr. Ravel in planning another new wing to our building. Mr. Jayne has a variety of interests outside of his chosen profession. He likes to play golf, work in his rose garden, and spends much time playing the piano for pleasure. He is interested in young people and seeks to understand their many problems with friendly counsel. N MR. LLOYD JAYNE Assistant Principal A double take
