Our leaders - academically and financially Holding his position as Superintendent of Hamburg schools since l957, Mr. Harry H. Hattan remains open- minded and continually searching for new ideas. ln his thirteen years with us he has helped a great deal in changing many ideas into reality. During this time the Junior High, Boston Valley, and Armor schools have been built. The ideas of remedial reading courses, child-develop- ment courses, HITV program, non-grading system, along with the admittance of handicapped children into schools have been developed. We oweha great deal to Mr. Hatten because of his interest and conviction in the worthwhile- ness of the individual. lt's what everyone needs. Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Personnel, Mr. Harry Erickson has the iob of being both co-ordinator and supervisor of all in-service courses and federally funded programs. He is also responsible for interviewing and placement of personnel along with observation and evaluation of teachers. Handling textbook and financial matters is Mr. Gerald Gerbracht, Assistant Superintendent for Business AFfairs. Budgeting our money to make it beneficial to all is an important responsibility he deals with. The Board of Education: building for tomorrow. Sealed: Mr. Griffin, Dr. Tremon, Mr. Hallen. Standing: Mr. Buckley, Mrs. Allen, Mr. Hornaday, Mr. Will, Mr. Herold. The Board of Education made decisions for our benefit The Board of Education is a group consisting of seven members whose function is to establish general policy and procedures for all of the Hamburg schools. The members of the Board do not have any power as individuals, but as a unit they comprise the highest power in our educational system. Besides setting up general policies, the Board is par- ticularly interested in reading programs for students of all ages, educational programs for teachers, and the expan- sion of our audio-visual resources. Another function of the Board is to set up the school budget which is the base for the only tax which citizens may vote on. Some of the physical goals which the Board of Education has set up for itself for the coming year in- clude the completion of the new Armor School, improve- ment of the inner facilities of older school buildings, and the possibility of an addition to the high school. Under the direction of the president, Dr. Joseph Treman, the Board sees its chief goal as the updating and increas- ing of all standards of education.

Mr. Spencer Ravel Principal Principal and students explored mutual problems For the past thirty-one years, Mr. Spencer W. Ravel has served the town cmd public school system of Hamburg well. ln l9-40, while he was principal of the iunior high school, he was also head coach of the high school football and basketball teams. Mr. Ravel became high school prin- cipal in l942, and although twice during his career as principal he temporarily left Hamburg High School to fight for our country in World War ll and later in the Korean War, he has continuously worked to maintain and improve our high school's status as an effective educational institu- tion. Under his wise guidance there has been a tremendous growth in our facilities and curriculum to meet the needs of an ever-growing student body. As a result of his leader- ship, Hamburg High School has advanced to become one of the finest secondary schools in the area. Mr. Ravel is a combination administrator, advisor, counselor and disciplinarian, but to many at Hamburg High, he is much more. He is a true friend to both students and faculty of our school. Sorry to interrupt . . .
