into democratic process of voting for leaders Carol Trope makes her choice. Through class and SCA elections students became aware of the democratic process of voting. A week long of campaigning, pre¬ ceding the elections, made clear the plat¬ forms and the qualifications of the candi¬ dates. On Friday, students gathered to hear the candidates make their final appeals for votes. Afterwards, students went to their homerooms to cast their ballots for their choices. Class elections were the second week in October, while SCA elections were the sec¬ ond week in February. Each candidate was nominated by a committee of representa¬ tives of the student body. Two candidates were nominated for each office, but other candidates were also petitioned by a certain number of students from the student body. An SCA amendment, passed this year, pro¬ vided for a student-faculty-committee to re¬ view all petitions. Speaking before the student body, junior Bebo Edmunds makes her bid for SCA president. » After marking her ballot, sophomore Mary Jane Roark gives it to her homeroom teacher, Mr. Henry Turner. 15
