Q if! ypwwwf .L l' 5 gf an Homecoming 1967 On Wednesday, September 20, the Haigler High students and faculty began the Homecom- ing festivities of 1967. The bon fire and pep rally began at 5:30 p.m. with the aw ard for the best woodpile going to the Senior Class. After roasting hot dogs and marshmallows, the Senior girls led the snake dance through town. Then the rally was held on Main Street. A very sunny sky, and typical Nebraskawind greeted us on the day of Homecoming which was September 22. The parade began at 2:00 p.m. and many people gathered along the route from the school buildings down through Main Street. The Haigler Legion led the parade with the flags, followed by the Pep Club float which provided the music for the parade. The other classes followed, then the business and other floats. The little pep band played The Star Spangled Banner and the big evening began. Be- tween halves of the game, the Homecoming Royalty was revealed. Kathie Schorzman was crowned Homecoming Queen and Marvin Carlock was the Homecoming King. Terry Blecha and Dwight Wall were their first attendants, and Jackie Smith and Jim Trembly were their second attendants. The 7th and 8thwon the first prize, the Juniors received the second prize, and the Freshmen received the third prize. In the business division, Edna Zuege received the first prize, the Crafty Club received the second prize, the Schorzman's Grocery was awarded the third prize. Mr. Vestal announced the half-time show. Everyone from Haigler was very happy with the outcome of the game between the Pali- sade Panthers and the Haigler Eagles. We won with a score of 22 to 13. The dance followed the game, beginning at 10:00 p.m. and we had music furnished by the Ryattes from Kearney. The Royalty was honored with gifts and flowers presented by Mark Stokey and Linda Akey. They also helped down at the game and their helpers were Jimmy Pfeiffer and Cregg Kamla. The gym was decorated beautifully by the Haigler Pep Club. The theme was Royalty A Go-Go , and dice of purple and gold were placed all around the gym with a large lucky one in the middle. The Homecoming of 1967 ended at 1:00 a.m., a very memorable day and evening for everyone. 1. T fr it L, Romance in Venice s' 'g i ellis! l si M 1968 Athletic Banquet As one entered the doorway leading down the stairs of the Methodist Church basement on the evening of April 6, a beautiful mood was set. The colors ofthe banquet were con- trasting blues. The crepe paper ceiling added an extra touch of beauty. The theme was The Eagle Beat Goes On and notes made of balloons and paper accented this idea. A drum made of napkins was the center of attraction and the names of the athletes were in glitter on the wall. The banquet began at 6:30 with the Welcome by the Pep Club President. Marvin Carlock was representing the boys with the Response. Then Terry Blecha and MerryLu Wall sang Somewhere My Love and Sylvia Flamig accompanied them. After the delicious meal prepared by the W.S.C.S., Miss Brtmkhardt and MerryLu Wall were presented gifts by Terry Blecha in behalf of the Pep Club. The awards were given and then a girls' ensemble sang aselection from The Music Man. Mr. Duane Wall was the featured speaker, and after the address, we said goodbye to an exceptionally beautiful evening. His aunt left him a for- tune which was to go to a hospital for cats at his death, so his mother watches over him very carefully. She sends with him his regular nurse who is 40. He begins to get better rapidly when he finds the nurses at Bide Awee to be young, pretty, and attractive. There is a strange assemblage of guests at the place. Mr. Posey imagines he is Napoleon, and walks miles every day. Mr. Sanders thinks he is Captain Kidd. He is rather violent, and is kept confined to his room. Mr. Hodges is a retired businessman who passes out checks to everyone. Willie falls in love with one of the nurses, Eva Wood. She asks him to go to the city to a dance as her date. I-le wants to go but hedidn't bring any clothes, except pajamas. Brenda Burton, another nurse, decides to swipe Neopoleon's clothes for the evening. Everything is set, but the girls can't get a taxi to town so they can meet the bus. Mrs. Winkle arrives unexpectedly to see Willie, Willie and the girls decide to borrow her car and go to town. Mrs. Winkle finds that Willie is gone and thinks he has been kidnapped, when she finds her car is also gone every- thing breaks loose. Everything is in a terrible muddle until Willie shows up with his new bride to explain everything. 'W .- Sv X Junior Class Play A READY MADE FAMILY Agnes Martyn, a widow, while vacationing meets an old sweetheart, Henry Turner, a widower, and they become engaged, Neither tells the other of the children at home, three in one household and two in the other. The youngsters, having heard of the big surprise, plan to upset the matrimonial apple cart by acting their worst before their prospective step-parents. One will have fits, the other will talk baby talk, a third plays the role of a holy terror. Sam- mie becomes a kleptomaniac, and Doris having had an operation will harp on that. After two hours of side-splitting laughter, Agnes and Henry emerge victorious and the kids are ready to accept their new parents. HQ 6 'Q s I i ' K W' ,.'
