Nearby, .in oxerlurned automobile, with an eighteen year old girl trapped inside, was in llarnes, After the driver ol' the e.ir pulled over. young Hennison quickly' ran to the overturned ear .ind .ittenipted to open the door, When it uouldn't open, Pat ltielted in the window enough to make .in opening. then reached in and pulled the bleeding girl out, .ind earried her away' from the burning ear Nlinutes later the overturned ear exploded, causing tlames to shoot between ISO to 200 leet high The girl, an eighteen year old resident ol llelnmr. was later brought to Albany Medical Center sullering from a fractured elboiy and arm and head in-juries For his heroic action, Bennison was eited by President Gerald Ford. Pat received a plaque commending him for his exceptional bravery. He also reeeived an award and a S50 savings bond from the Elks Club of Guilderland. Seniors 17
