From the carefree somnolence and comfortable niches of childhood we pass now into the unlimited im¬ mensity of awareness of the pos¬ sible. And now, in the in-between time before the possible becomes actual, we take the time to prepare for the well-known, brute-force re¬ ality with our own special version, which is a bit more easy to deal with. So we arm ourselves with some first and much second hand knowledge of that longed-for real world, and with all the skill and inexperience at our disposal, we fashion for ourselves a little practice world where we can try it on and see how it fits. Naturally, we are very selective about what we let into our world . Mainly it ' s those fascinating mysteries and attention-getters that we find after careful observation of our movies, magazines, and books. Then off we go and our world is carefully built in miniature and caricature and deadly earnest. 20
