Cfluss flzsfory In September of 1955 our class of 59 entered Groveton Hrgh School to seek then' fortunes and drplo mas Our class advrsors were Mrs Chrrstre and Mrss Chapman At our frrst class meeung we elected Robert Nugent, Presrdent Davrd Grlbert V1ce Presxdent Drane Mrles Secretary and Anglerne Holbrook, Treasurer Soon after thls frrst meetrng, we elected our representauves to the Athletrc Assoc1at1on Ruth Martm and Brenda Israel Davrd Forbes and Krrk Newsom were elected to the Student Councrl It was decrded that year to d1Sp6l'lS6 w1th the rnxtratxon usually held for Freshmen We wouldn t on the admrnrsterrng of an 1n1at1on However we l1ved through that dlsapporntment At Chrrstmas t1me the music department put on an all school operetta The Krug and Queen Phrlrp Boucher and Ruth Martxn along w1th thelr court, band, and chorus and many other classmates took part Needless to say, rt was a huge success ln February rt came trme for our annual School Carnrval Our prmcess candrdate Dawn Stevens was elected The Float commrttee was comprrsed of Robert Nugent and Ph1l1p Boucher Sculptor commrttee charrman was Danny Mason They all d1d a great Job as d1d many of our classmates rn the sports events for we won the twenty fxve dollar pr1ze as a class and two of our members, Ruth Mart1n and Robert Nu gent won the sports trophres We also won thrs event for the next three years Later rn February we had a very successful Sadre Hawkrns Leap Year Dance It was amazing to see how handsome some of the boys were wearrng rhe corsages presented to them by the grrls At the close of our Freshman year we ordered our class rmgs whrch would be delrvered ln our Sopho more year In September of 56 we were back as Sophomores wrth f1fty four members Th1s year we elected Treasurer Our marshal was Dennls Homer For advrsors we had Mr Gray and Mrs Chrlstre Early tn the year we gave a dance for the Freshmen to wh1ch they were adm1tted free Our A A representatlves were Charlotte Landry who was elected Secretary Treasurer and Phllxp Boucher On the Student Coun cxl our class was represented by Robert Nugent and Ruth Mart1n who was the Secretary Our candldate for queen of the Carnrval Charlotte Tapley was VICIOIIOUS In the parade and sportrng events we were hrghly successful and won the coveted twenty f1V6 dollars and had the grrls trophy w1nner agam, Ruth Mart1n Later rn the year we had a skatrng party Tlus was very successful both socrally and flnancrally We were pleased wrth our class rrngs, and two of our classmates were rewarded 4 H trrps Robert Nugent went to Atlanta, Georgra and Ruth Mart1n went to Chrcago lllmors At the begrnnrng of our Jumor year wrth forty srx members, we suddenly realrzed that half of our hrgh school career was over and we were rn the second half of the game Our class advtsors were Mr Gray and Mr Matthews We elected Danny Nason, Presldent Ruth Martrn Vrce Presrdent Drane Mrles Secretary Robert gent Treasurer and Ph1l1p Boucher Marshal On the student councrl we were represented by Robert Nugent and Danny Nason who was also elected Vrce Presrdent of the Councrl We elected Carl Shoff and Ruth Mart1n to the athletrc Assoc1at1on Ruth was elected Vrce Presrdent We held a Hobo Dance that year and had a great nme looklng our worst Our Junror Play, Headrn for the Hills, was coached by Prerre Morrn It was a hrllbrlly productron from the hrlls of Kentucky and very humorous from beglnnmg to end The novel scenery of a store . . . . . . .
