Assemblies OCTOBER 7 1943 After bemg beautlfullv decorated bv the Sophomore class the Freshmen were taken to the gymnasium to be lnltlated The lmtlatlon was In the form of a play wrltten by LOUISE Sheehy XHFIOUS Freshmen had to take the parts of the two characters NIIIICTVH and Joey NOVEMBER 10 1943 This assembly was held rn honor of the 168th annlversary of the Unlted States Marines A letter was read bv Mr Lafayette whlch stated that all over the world IAIHFINCS would pause for one mmute while a trlbute was read to them by thelr Com mandmg Offxcer Thls trlbute was read to the assembled group bv Mlss Corey The Marmes Hymn was sung by the Stardusters and a one mlnute sllence followed NOVEMBER 16 1943 The G H S Mllltary Pollce gave the assemblv to introduce themselves to the student body The purpose of the M P s whnch are posted throughout the school bulldlng IS to promote better conduct throughout the day when the puplls are chang mg classes or entermg or leavlng the bulldlng Vl hen an M P sees a student dolng omethmg wrong such as shoutmg 1n the hall runnmg slammmg doors and numerous other offenses he wlll glve the offender a tlcltet Then the offender w1ll appear ln court the followxng Frlday to recelve h1s fine or punlshment DECEMBER 3 1943 Several scenes from the Semor Play Here Comes the Prince were shown to the assembled group at thls assembly It IS a three act comedy whlch IS sure to be a success Talung part ln the productlon were Dlck 'Harsh Stanford Iohnson Frank Styles Bllly Mavhew Donald Moffett Edna Alayberrv Betty AVllllS Dot Ramsdell Carolyn Boucher Lorrame Kmg and Joan Chase DFCEMBER 8 1943 Thus assembly was glven bv the Tumor class It was thelr verslon of Kay Kyser wlth Homer Chase as the old professor One glrl and one boy from each class were called upon to be contestants Dlck Marsh a Senlor proved to be the most brllllant 1n the College of Muslcal Knowledge DECEMBER 19 1943 The Chrlstmas assembly this vear was an entlrelv new type for G H S It was a solemn pageant celebratmg the blrth of Chrlst All the Groveton Clergy were 1nv1ted to take part but Father Heon was unable to attend The ooenlng prayer was glven by Rev Sharp the readlng was bv Rev Crouch The background of music was supported bv the Stardusters under the dlrectlon of Mlss Corey Taklng part ln the tableau were Barbara Rogers as Mary Dean Plke as joseph Conrad Graham as the Innkeeper Dean Ellmgwood Arthur Sharby and Gary Nor mandeau as Shepherds and Dana Moore Richard Chase and Donald Moffett as the Three Klngs The closmg praver was by Rev Sharp JANUARY 11 1944 New offlcers were elected for the Athletlc Assoclatnon at thls assembly They are Presldent Dana Nloore VlCCP1'CS1dCI1t Dean Tlllotson and Secretary and Treasurer Carlene Beattle Jane Styles and Mlllard Swnft were elected Cheer Leaders It was declded that the A A would sponsor the Wmter Carmval so a commlttee was chosen to draw up plans for the Carmval They were Carolvn Boucher Wllllam like N lomx Hurlbutt l'atr1c1a Hopps Ruel Hall and Ted Stvles JANUARY 12 1944 A I lterary Romance was the name of a clexer slut out on bv the Llbrarlans under the dlrectlon of Nllss XX allxer I eona Xl allmg was reade Ioluse Sheelsv was Allss Current Llterature Nlarv Booth Airs Current Llterature with Barbara Jean Bovd as the male member of the family NIEITIOU Llvmgston was 'NIr Old Classics and ,Tackle LeP1ne was Lp to date F1ct1on The plav was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone l22 o , . . . , . 7 1 ' . , . .
