Third Row: Eagles End Woeful Season 1-9 Grove City High School football fans had little to cheer about this season as the GC Gridders won only one game, lost nine, including three forfeits. When the defense was able to hold the opposition, the offense couldn’t get going and had trouble putting points on the board. The Eagles were shutout in four of the seven games and until the final game the extent of the Eagles scoring punch was two touchdowns by Ron Riede; one against Titusville and one versus Sharpsville. The team finally got it together at West Middlesex as Doug Labor crossed the goal line twice and Ron Reide once. That, combined with two extra points, gave Grove City their first win, and Coach Bennie Adams his last as head coach. Mr. Adams announced his resignation near the end of the season. He has been head football coach at Grove City since 1972 and his overall coaching record is 9 wins 19 losses and 1 tie. Seniors playing their last game for the Gold and White were running backs Bob Gildersleeve, and Ron Riede; quarterback Ed Black; linemen Vince Alessio, Tom Goble, Steve Jacobs and Bob Wilson; Linebackers John Ligo and Brad Myers and safetyman Ken Burns.
