Dr. J. B. Herrick, Superintendent A background of broad and liberal education is combined with conscientious administrative abili- ties in the Junior High Principal, Robert McMichael. Mr. McMichael graduated from Slippery Rock State Teachers College and received his M. in Ed. de- gree at Penn State. Assuming his capacities here in 1956, he previously was on the faculty at Marion and Fairview Township Schools where he taught ge- ography, science, social studies, and English. Mr. Robert McMichael, Junior High Principal 8 Dr. Jack B. Herrick began serving as the Superintendent of Grove City joint Consolidated Schools in 1956. A B.S. in Education graduate of Slip- pery Rock State Teachers College in 1942, he received his M. in Education and Dr. in Education degrees from Pitt University. Before coming to Grove City, he taught science and math at Evans City and, later, biology at But- ler I-ligh School. He was also direc- tor of the adult evening school while at Butler. His strong character, friendliness, and devotion to needs of students have imparted to our schools a distinctive spirit and high ideals . . ' x Mr. Albert Skelton, Senior High Principal Mr. Albert R. Skelton assumed the duties of Senior High Principal two and a half years ago. Since that time, he has worked tirelessly toward making Grove City Senior High School a better place in which to live and learn. Principal Skel- ton received his B. S. degree from Thiel College and his M. A. in Education at Allegheny College He served for four years as principal at Port Al- legany, Pa. before coming to our school. 9 rift., x

These goals are reached in the following ways: writing by research papers, themes, essays, short stories, and various types of letters: speaking through courses on a three-level basis--compulsory in the sophomore level and elective in the junior and senior years: and reading through studies in classic and modern literature. Besides our native American English, the depart ment offers three foreign languages--Latin, whose vocabulary forms a large part of our scientific and legal words, and French and Spanish, which help in understanding other societies .
