In none of the defeats handed Grossmont, was the opponents score embarrassingly large. The significance of this is that it shows the team was good on defensive action. l-lowever, defensive action alone, as testified by this season's results, will not win football games. Grossmont was not outstanding on the gridiron this year because we did not score a single point in any league game. The reason for this poor showing was that the best players gradu- ated or were called into the service. Because of this fact the l943 team was with the exception of four letter men, composed of determined, inexperienced players. Yet in spite of our depleted condition, our team was strong enough to face all of our gridiron foes and put up a strong fight. ln...- W, Freshmen-Snphnmure Team When football practice began in the fall, the turnout of players was so large that it would have been impossible to train by means of the usual set up. To malce certain that everyone got the riqht amount of practice, the Freshman-Sophomore team was or ganized. As implied by its name, most of the team consisted of freshmen or sopho- mores, althouqh there were a few juniors. All of the members of the team were unfa- miliar with football and they were taught and allowed to practice the fundamental tactics. lt is throuqh the freshman-sophomore team that Grossmont hopes to build some qood players for use in future seasons. wgmwrrvaw murmuring WMV K1 First row: D. The B and C teams trimmed all their opponents by such large margins that some ot the meets were scarcely co-ntests. ln the C division, Grossmont defeated Kearny 76 to I. Class C events were the 50 yard dash, I00 yard dash, I20 yard law hurdles, 660 yard run, 440 yard relay, high jump, broad jump, pole vault, and the shotput.
