wimming: A Lifetime Sport Good swimmers are made, not born, for swimming is an acquired skill. It must be learned. The success of the swimmer depends upon his desire to improve and upon his perseverance. Almost all varsity swimmers began to swim when they were five or six years of age. By the time they reached high school, swimming was as natural as walk- ing or talking. It was inevitable that they would try out for the team. To make the team, more perseverance was neces- sary. The tankers swim, on the average, an hour and a half every night after school from the start of school in September to the end of the swimming season at the end of March. They swim anywhere from one length, for warm-up, to sixty lengths for endurance. A college career in swimming may await some graduating natators. For others the intensive effort in the sport will end with graduation. For none, however, will swimming end with graduation from high school any more than it began with it. B. C. L. SCOREBOX G.
