THI ll' WE PASS EEEEEEE TIME . . . What's pretty about Cl school hall? the boy asked the photographer. I don't know yet, he answered. Everything is beautiful if you look at it the right way. The photographer began to set up his camera. He thought of Carl Sandburg, the Chicago poet, who took an ordinary dirty city-smog, factories, railroad yards 'azz players, and taxi drivers-and emerged with a Chicago so great it startled its own inhabitants. He thought of Van Gogh, who saw blazing land- scapes in common wheat fields. He remembered Johann Strauss who put into music the smoothness of the Blue Danube. The camera shutter clicked. We're all like that, he thought. We pass through the hall every day, and yet we don't realize its beauty until we see a picture. it -W Browning had his earthy monk, Fra Lippo Lippi, say: . . .
