The mellow tone of the bell, sounding the hour, made her glance back. On the tower. bright against the blue and white sky. sunlight glinted against the hands on the face of the clock. That clock had ticked off nearly three years of her life. It wouldn't be long before it was all over . . And what had it all added up to? It meant get-togethers in the hall before school, and the warmth of friendship with dozens of others It meant learning to work with peo ple to be informal, to be casual and helpful. Under the tower was a con genial world of harmony The friendliness of high school, she thought, was one thing that would stay with her for years to come. May be it would mean more, really than anything else her diploma signified The girl turned the corner, shifted her books, and sniffed the fragrance of apple blossoms and lilacs. What they want is a little cuddling! By observing small guests in class, the girls become aware ol the startling differences in ability and develop- ment between different age groups of pre-school chi'dren. Philosophers say, Experience is the best teacher. Homemaking III girls say, The inexperienced are the best teachers. Bill got up from his lunch and looked out the win- dow. t'Gee, he said, look at that steam shovel. Only that morning he had walked over that very spot where a great cavity was growing before his eyes. Bill sat down, throwing out his chest with pride. Grosse Pointe was at it again. In less than a year the new auditorium-gymnasium would be ready for use. Bill would play basketball in one of the state's largest and Finest gymnasiums or be one of the 5,000 spectators when it is used for an auditorium. Crash! The Blue Devils have played their last full season in the cracker box gym. Thanks to the efforts of parents. students. and staff. the team will occupy a modern. spacious gym sometime next year. Although everyone is looking forward to the new home of the basketball team. the school will never forget the thrilling and exciting action witnessed in the old gym. The last season was typical of the high quality of basketball that Grosse Pointe has produced within its walls. There are many jobs to be done behind the scenes. One of the most impor- tant is letting the rest of the school know there is going to be a play. Putting up the banner to advertise the spring production are Tom Ketzler, and Doug Howe, lOB's. All you have to do to become a member of Y-Teens is sign up. Sandy Taylor, HA, Delta Y-Teens secretary, helps .lucly Delaney, lOB, enroll in one ot the four Y-Teens groups sponsored by the high school. l' if lit.-it ,gifs Aff in effing Started It was raining. The gloomy, dullness of the dark day closed in on him as he sat in homeroom, but jim didn't mindg it suited his mood: he hated being a IOB. As he stared disappointedly at the bright new text books lying on the desk, he reflected how wrong the guy down the street had been when he told him high school was a wonder- ful life. Sure, maybe the kids that belonged to a lot of clubs and other things had fun . . . but what if you didn't belong? Band members are kept on their toes practicing for the various occasions ot which the band plays, New members find the going pretty tough at first, but as Bonnie Averill, Ed Pongracz, and Otto Scherer, lOB's, are finding out, the final result is worth all the trouble. Earning fifteen hours of service points really isn't as bad as it sounds, especially when the result is HifY membership. The Blue and Gold Hi-Y are two of the most active clubs in the school. Dating was now commonplace to youg in fact, at times you boys liked getting away from it all to enjoy a stag affair with Chuck Floer, Dick Sadler, and Jim Stark. Now it's June l7, l954fyour night!
