'iv i , The Qireenwood Tree, IQ5I The Greenwood driveway stands for the years that we have all spent at Greenwood. Each one of us has entered at the same gate on the first day of schoolg each of us leaves by that gate when we finally go home. We all must go up the same hill through our fresh- man, sophomore, junior, and senior yearsg and as we progress through our years at school, we gain more and more of the spirit and ideals for which Greenwood stands. This feel- ing of absorbing Greenwood ideals through the years is expressed in the driveway. As we walk up the hill, we come closer and closer to the school itself which is the symbol of the true school feeling. When we reach the top, we are in the heart of Greenwood School. The driveway is a constant reminder of every phase of our school life. We have played games of tennis and hockey, and the Whig-Tory games, which are such an impor- tant part of our school, are played in view of the driveway. All our outside activities and interests are connected with school because we use the driveway to take part in them, we use it to go to Ruxton and Towson on Saturdays, to concerts at the Lyric Theater and to church in Ruxton. The day-students and faculty come to join the boarders by means of the driveway thus bringing all of the people in the school together and uniting them in one place for one purpose: this purpose is to learn, and to uphold and be inspired by the ideals and aims of Greenwood itself. Of all the things that we will miss when we leave'Greenwood, we will miss these three classes the most. Although they have often been our problem with their over- exhuberance, they have made up for it by being wonderful friends. We will take away with us visions of innocent-faced juniors raiding the kitchen at strange hours and trying to inveigle coffee from unsuspecting teachers. Their inde- pendent spirit provided us with a hamster and the idea spread to the Garden House in the form of white mice. Not only have the freshmen produced a pair of white mice, but a varied collection of musical instruments and a visitor from Mars as well. The sophomores are interested in the more cultural aspects of life, the theater and weekend privileges. X ,J Although we wonder how their interests will change in 'fy ' . 1 '. s., , i i the next few years, we would rather remember them as they Q'g,3lil'?'f'Jl'f' are, a little eccentric perhaps, from our mature senior point of if If i l E 3 5' ini- W4 y Qflqllllxl. view, but lovable just the same. fy!! illhlisw 'il fd, 3 1 X f-ww: L igipwl A i W I. 7:. i9Z.' Throughout the year, the equestrian spirit at Cree ood rides high! 'Q' W The Art Club meets down in the little studio, which is covered with rambler roses, at the end of the driveway, The girls in the club work creatively and are not disturbed by the short visits of the dogs-Vitalis, Bruce and Lover Buttons. Several of the best pictures and work in clay have a permanent place in the hall of the school building. This year the club attended an exhibition of modern Canadian art in Washington. In addition to the trips to museums and galleries, the artists of the school decorated the windows of the studio with Pennsylvania Dutch designs and furnished the scenery for the Dramatic Club plays. Through the activities of the Art Club, each member may develop creative talent to be carried on in later years, and may realize her ambition to become an artist. cu i ' oo'-S, ': Hn 549' ,ooh 4,64 L hugo I7 417' V53 .- f ,'f .
