Brautigan. HOCKEY With only two members of last year's starting line-up on the roster this year, the Big Red hockey team broke from the opening face-oil to three consecutive victories. Although hampered by sickness and injuries, the team managed to end the season with an even record of four wins, four set-backs, and two ties. High spot of the season came when the Cardinals faced Mamaroneck in the final game of the schedule with the Westchester Hockey League title at stake. With both teams playing a thrilling brand of hockey, Mamaroneck, in the final period, managed to sneak the puck past goalie Clarke Russ on a screen shot to notch a 1-0 victory. -T The sextet's games were sparked by the enthusiasm and playing of Captain Tom Montgomery, Pete jenkins, 'Mouse' Prat- ley, Fred Marr, Gif? Reed, and Clarke Russ.

TR With the return of spring Coach Cliff Gustafson will be seen dividing his time and efforts between the runners and field men as they prime for the many dual and championship meets that lie ahead. Because our year book goes to press before the Conn. State Relays and the Rye Invitation and State championship meets, it is impossible to give results although we can make predictions as has been done in previous years This year Coach Gustafson will depend largely upon Ray Chickanis, his record breaking senior in the dis- tances, followed by Eddy Fox, Bill Griffin, George Brotherton and jim McGrath. The sprints with Bill Cody and Whitey O'Brien as the nucleus and Larry Wah, Bryce Brown, Cullen, Serna, and Phil Decker to brighten the picture, the outlook appears promising. A 24 K The field events will feature such stalwarts as Fred Marr in the lavelin Chuck Kidner and Bill Griffin leading the high jumpers and Bob Mead along with Ed Kristoff topping the pole vaulters Bill Cody and Cliff Cross will try for top honors in the broad jump while leading the shot putters will be Harold Bauten and Doug Salter The discus will be action packed in a contest between Doug Salter and lanky Fred Marr Although our track team has compiled an enviable record in previous years it cannot coast along on its laurels. Championship teams are produced as a result of hard and tedious hours on the field and considering the host of eager aspirants on this years team we should have nothing short of a better than average season.

SPRING TRAINING BASEBALL With about one-half of last year's regulars return- ing, the G.H.S. baseball team of 1950 should have a very good season. While playing with last year's squad, these men showed plenty of hustle and spirit, two fac- tors which can make a big difference against the tough reams in the league. The expert coaching and guidance of Mr. Covino should, as in the past, turn out a line squad which our school can be proud of. Although this piece merely represents a gaze in the crystal ball, we look forward to hearing the crack of bats and the roar of the crowd come from Havemeyer Field.
