Darula, W. Murray, R. Geotze. SWIMMING Lead by their Captain jim Koehlert, the Cardinal swimimng team racked up another undefeated season of conference meets. They were defeated only by the Yale Freshmen, one of the best college teams in the country. With Ray Chickanis holding down the div- ing and Koehlert taking all the firsts in the 50 and 100 yard free-style, the G.H.S. team proved too much for their opponents. The team was also strengthened by many promising under classmen. Although they were not chosen as state champions, they captured more points than any school in the state meet at Yale, and also won fourth place in the New England Cham- pion ships, the only school in Connecticut to place. Excellently coached by Mr. Covino, all the boys turned in fine records throughout a difficult season. 20

BASKETBALL The success of this year's basketball squad cannot be seen in the lifeless figures of the score book, for our team has done a valiant job reaching above its tower- ing opponents. Fighting against overpowering height in almost every instance, the boys, spirited by Captain V. Fiorito, have done themselves credit on all counts. The school turned out in force to pack the gym at all home games, and cheer Giansello on to break the individual scoring record previously held by Worthy Patterson. The spirit and sportsmanship exhibited by the team have impressed the courtmen of other schools to the extent of overbalancing the importance of score.
