B-30 Music has played an important part in rounding out our school year and provided another source of education. The band, although compara- tively small, played at many func- tions and performed favorably to the public eye. The band march- ed at all major celebrations dur- ing the summer, and during the football season the band maneu- vered for all football games. These maneuvers were well received by the public. During the basketball season the band played at all pep assemblies and at all games. The drum majorettes also performed at some of the games. The High school band collaborated with the Coleraine City Band in bringing the University of Minnesota Con- cert Band to Greenway I-Iigh School to present a concert. The band's final performance was cli- maxed by its annual spring Con- CGM. The vocal groups in the school provided us with a varied and well-liked type of music during the year. The mixed chorus per- formed at many assemblies and this group was liked very much. Those who took part in musical activities throughout the year re- ceived much beneficial training by their interest and participation. GIRLS' CHQRUS TOP ROW'-Min Andermn, V, Sandelin. L. Oquixl. A. A light breeze is blowing As the distant moon shines And gives its pale glowing To the stately, lonely pines, This is the resting place of the dead, A cool, spreading green bed. Here are those who have parted From all worldly cares, From journeys bravely started Through dangers and hidden snares. Then from out of the mist Comes a passing paradeg Loved ones gone, a sad list, But one whose memories never fade. -Sylvia Rich APPRECIATION Those fleecy white clouds 'gainst a sky of blue, A rippling brook with bottom of moss, Whispering trees whose tales are true, A towering church with a gilded cross. These things in life are seen by all, And gazed upon day after day, But one's sight does not an imprint make, Of things so wonderous and gay. You are not made for the life of the earth, And possibly for less than a score, Observe and Absorb, and appreciate more, For these things are yours since the time of birth. -Gerald March B-37 SENIORS Now it's our last year With the end quite nearg And though we often complain As knowledge we gain, Wlien the end is hnally near Our school seems very dear. There is preparation and flurry, Always a great hurry. Theres the Senior play, Preparing every day. And just before each exam How we cram! And then after final examination We can receive long-awaited congratulations -Sylvia Rich ALONE To walk alone beneath the stars, To breathe in air so clean and pure, To reminisce on one's own thoughts, A wish desired year upon year. The cool still night intoxicates the brain, One's eyes entranced by beauty, Man Moon's rays on pines in the lane, The breath not knowing its duty. Midst rays of silver, Elms frolicly dance 'On meadows sparkling with dew, O'er icy streams which sear like a lance, And glories waiting dawn anew. -Gerald March FAREXVELL GREENWAY Dear Greenway High School, were dreaming of you, And we'll long for you each day. Dear Old Greenway, now we are leaving, Please listen to our lay. We'll miss the classroom, the dreary books, The scenes we loved so well. Dear Old Greenway, though we are far away, Your memory with us will stay. The stars looking down on the stadium at night, The crowds, the boys, the held, what a sight! The basketball tournament, Did we fight! Then the honors in other fields, Debate, declam, oratorical speels, All this made the old school memories Like pictures on a movie screen. Again the classroom I guess we'll appreciate you most You teachers who held us to the post, Even though at the time we thought it a bore, We know in the future we'll wish we had more, Of that stuff taught on the classroom floorg Most important of all in opening Lifes door to success Farewell teachers and classmates, it has been fun, My silly verse is finished, and I must rung To get under the wire before it's closed, To such foolish dreamers as your friend, Boz, -Celeste Bechtel A FRIEND I can't tell how I feel, 'Bout a special friend of mine, You'd think she wasn't real, For things she's done o'er time. It's a secret in my heart, Which I cherish more each day, She'll always own one part, I know she'll never say. I have more reason than you, To claim this special friend, No one will ever know, Why I'll hold her to the end. -Gerald March B-38 MR. RIDGEWAY'S PLIGHT The racing of the motor The stripping of the gears The slipping of the clutch They're all mixed together, And we're all in dutch! Mr, Ridgeway fusses and fumes And says: This is your doom! If the racing of the motor And the slipping of the clutch Are all mixed together: then You're all in dutch! Someone kills the motor Someone strips the gears And all in all By the end of the hour were all in tears. -The First Driving Class BASKETBALL VICTORY The minutes roll on, the seconds tick by And the game is still in a tie, All we need is one basket more To have the winning score. There goes a shot through the airg It missed its mark just by a hair. Up for the rebound, way up high, We can't let this chance slip us by. Across the floor, down the court, Oh what a nerve-wracking sport! just listen to that crowd howl When the referee calls the foul. Here's the break we've been waiting forg Another chance to boost the score. Up goes the ball, it drops neatly through, The second goes in neatly, too. The seconds tick on, the clock turns red, The Greenies are still out ahead. The game has been a real chiller, But we have won another thriller. -Art Toms SPURTS B-40 Lu? Richard Roscoe -with a broken leg, jim Hall with a dislocated shoulder, and Wesley Otten with a bad knee, weakened our backfleld considerably. Next year should prove an interesting year. For if all our freshmen return we will have both power and experience on the Viking team. Bob Caplain john Peler Danny Sbofly Bob Through The l-I oopl SECOND ROW'-Coach T. Darowicla, D. Pafkf, D. BASKETBALL Dirk Sturk, Nit-la Predovicla, Coach Tommy Dasovich's first year turned out to be a fairly profitable one. The Viking team lost 8 games and won 6 which isn r a bad average for a group of boys working together for the hrst time. One of the basketball boys made quite a reputation for himself. Nick Predovich, with his high scoring of 314 points and 29 fouls during all the 14 games he played this year, was considered the most valu- able man on the squad. With three first string and three second string men gradu- ating, the team will have to work doubly hard to better this year's record.
