DEDICATION-1969 This year the Hi-Life staff is proud to dedicate the 1969 Hi-Life to Mr. Heiby. We arrived at this decision because of his friendliness to, and understanding of, the students of G.H.S., his devotion to teaching, and his love of sports. Mr. Heiby was born February 27, 1934. He attended school in Bowling Green, Ohio, through his high school years. Because his father encouraged him to participate in sports, he was not only a member of the city baseball team, but was also a 5' 11 , 150-lb. quarterback on the Varisty football team. After his high school graduation, Mr. Heiby attended General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan. Upon graduation in August of 1957, he enlisted in the service, and during this time spent 18 months in Germany. Upon returning in 1959, Ed Heiby took a job as 4

MR. HEI8V engineer at Fisher Body. Because he felt his life could be more fulfilling as a teacher, he entered Michigan State University and received a B.S. in education in August, 1961. His first teaching position was in Mason, a small town south of Lansing, where he taught Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics and was also assistant Varsity football coach. In 1965 he came to Greenville, primarily because the Varsity football coaching position was offered to him. It should be noted that when Mr. Heiby began teaching he had no intention of coaching. Besides his position as head coach of the Varsity football team, Mr. Heiby also coaches the track team and teaches Chemistry and Physical Science. Mr. Heiby is also the Varsity Club advisor. Mr. Heiby and the former Jean Loomis, also of Bowling Green, met in school during the seventh grade and were later married on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1955. They now have three children—Leslie, 9; Allison, 7; and Rex, 4. Greenville High School is truly fortunate to possess such a teacher and coach as Mr. Heiby. In the name of the school, we, the Hi-Life staff of 1969, take this opportunity to express our deep appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Edward Heiby. Our originator of the Purple Power slogan enjoys fishing for trout and feels very strongly about America. Currently Mr. Heiby is a member of the Methodist Church, Methodist Men, and the Lions Club. For the past two years Mr. Heiby has been selected as a member of the All-State Committee for The Detroit Free Press. Each summer he returns to the University of Missouri on a National Science Foundation Grant to work toward his masters degree. 5
