VARSITY FOOTBALL Co-captains Rod Larsen and Tom Hansen talking things over with Coach Heiby and Coach Sheldon. 22 With a new coaching staff headed by Ed Heiby and assistant Keith Shelden, our Yellow Jackets regained much respect on the gridiron last fall. For the first time since 1955, Greenville High did not have a losing season. This year’s team came up with a 500” season, 4-4-1. In the season’s opener a tough Yellow Jacket defense scored two touchdowns to help beat Lake view, 19-0. It was not until two hardfought defeats and a scoreless tie later, that Greenville came up with its’ second win of the season, a 13-7 Homecoming victory over Charlotte. Though the team played good sound football in its next two games, the score-board just wasn’t in favor. After losing a heartbreaker at Grand Ledge in the final seconds, Greenville came back to trounce Alma, 20-6. It was a fine game for the parents of the boys who were honored at Parents Night”. Greenville closed out the season by soundly beating rival Belding, 20-6, thus retaining possesion of the American l.egion trophy for the second consecutive year. Looking at the record and at the fine crop of younger football players at GHS, we can look forward to football teams of which we will be very PROUD.
