GHS Gets New PRINCIPAL Becoming the new principal of a high school is a challenge, and only men of challenge dare take it. One man — Mr. James Ryan was “dared” to become the new principal of Greenville Senior High School. He took it! Since then, he has repeatedly shown himself to be one of the “men of challenge.” As an educator, a humanitarian, a principal, and a father, he has accepted the dare” and has passed it on to the Class of 1965 in this message to them: Upon your graduation you have accepted a great responsibility. You are equipped with only the most basic and fundamental tools for deriving the most out of life. The question you are obligated to ask yourself at this time is, Where do I go from here?” Kahlil Gibran expresses an interesting thought in THE PROPHET — “Your reason and your passion are the rudder and the sails of your seafaring sail. “If either your sails or your rudder be broken, you can but toss and drift, or else be held at a standstill in mid-seas. “For reason, ruling alone, is a force confining; and passion, unattended, is a flame that burns to its own destruction. “Therefore let your soul exalt your reason to the height of passion, that it may sing; “And let it direct your passion with reason, that your passion may live through its own daily resurrection, and like the phoenix rise above its own ashes. Your talents are a gift that demand recognition — use and develop them wisely. How much you will enjoy life’s many pleasures will be determined by how much living you decide to do. Be reasonable in your decisions and in your expectations. Mr. James Ryan 9
