All graduates and potential grad- uates of G.H.S. as well as the faculty, administration, parents, and community have made our school what it is-its traditions, customs, and high prestige have evolved through our endeavors. In planning this yearbook the staff decided to use as its theme, Challenge, a challenge for forth- coming classes of G.H.S. to make their school as successful as vve have made ours. So nigh is grandeur to our dust, So near is God to man. He had a constant desire to help young boys and became director of the Greenville Boys' Club in 1948. He was admired and respected by all who knew him. Mr. Hawes is greatly missed by all of us. r 552030 3 We, the members of the Senior Class of '62, have finally attained the goal we set out to achieve when we entered G.H.S. in T958 as freshmen. Throughout the four years, graduation sometimes seemed to be in the far future. We struggled through exams. Al- though sometimes we felt that we couldn't wait to leave school, when graduation finally arrived, we realized how much school had meant to us. When we were freshmen, we enjoyed a picnic. In our sophomore year, we had our 50-50 Dance, Fran- tic Frolic. The big moment really arrived when we presented the prom, ln the Gardens of the Gods. The class plays Cheaper By The Dozen and Harvey also contributed to our eventful high school lives. ORGQIWZQ 7'!OfU5 Included with scholastic efforts and class activities at Greenville High School are over twenty organiza- tions which cover the many interests of the students. During the year the members receive much enioy- ment from the club activities, such as dances, picnics, banquets, tupd-raising drives, concerts, and musicals. Nlore important than the pleasure received, how- ever, is the character which is developed in the stu- dents. Through these extracurricular activities, stu- dents learn to accept and meet responsibilities and to get along with others. In this way, participation in such groups enables them to complete that part of their education which cannot be obtained in the class- room.
