This year 1975 is the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Greenport High School Alumni Association. We the class of 1975 would like to thank the class of 1925 for its vision to the years ahead. The Association pledged its students to be prompted to high endeavors and scholastic standings but most of all to prepare for or later avail themselves of the opportunities afforded to make their school the source of the community’s future leaders. Greenport needs leaders of vision, men and women who have its needs at heart and who are trained. A L U M N I C L A S s To such a task the Greenport Alumni Association pledged itself and asked of each graduate that he lend his moral and physical and occasionally his financial support so that Greenport High School might be the better, the community richer in leaders, and the individual feel real satisfaction for contributing to a worth-while endeavor. No time better than now to re-examine these pledges and i deas. C.K.B. CLASS OF 0 F 2 5 13 1975 OFFICE AIDES SEATED: K. Kettering, D. Dzenkowski, M. Golisz, R. Loeb, D. Bondarchuk. STANDING: W. Pell III, a member of the Board of Education for ten years, has announced he will retire from service at the end of this school year. Mr. Pell was president of the board in his fifth, sixth, and seventh years of service when the building bond vote was pas- sed, and the construction of the new addition to our school was begun and completed. A 1954 graduate of Greenport High School, and a member of hhe All-Suffolk football and basket- ball squads, Mr. Pell has en- joyed serving our community as a board member. He looks for- ward to spending more time now with his wife Marian, and his children — Becky, Blanche, and Billy. We are grateful to him and all our board members for their unselfish efforts in our behalf. “OLIVER Most Talkative Karen and Gary Most Angelic Danny and Michelle Most Versatile Kenny and Cindy Most Artistic Alfred Most Athletic Jeff and Chris Senior Superlatives Most Likely To Succeed Lizzy and Danny 30 Most Dependable Mike and Patty Class Hotrodders Howard and Kathy Class Wits Elaine and Ed Best Dancers Todd and Corinne Best Dressed Becky and Jeff Most Musical Jeff, Becky, and Holly Most Mischievous Jeff and Bobby 31 Senior Nickname Seen Most Pet Peeve Secret Ambition Ellyn behind a cash register “Know-it-alls” to travel around the world Periscope Pat at my 5th St. apartment (Krze’s) liars warm beer to grow a ponytail Mousie sitting on the front steps Ed Bellson to leave Greenport Ookie at the Laundromate people who try to be something they aren’t to keep you guessing Ratty I.G.A. Todd 35 Listen my children and you shall hear Of how a mighty class in its Freshman year Elected for officers, Michelle as President, With Patty G. giving her v.p. consent. Cindy took notes, and Andrea bread And with their feminine intuition led. The class sponsored a St. Pat’s dance That was quite a success, perchance. We returned in September of seventy-two Slightly bolder now, with friendships to renew. Danny was chosen as king of the class, And Linda was chosen our veeping lass. Becky was made the chief recorder While Corinne kept the books in order. We sponsored the Christmas dance that year. With Underbrush providing music and cheer. Our Junior year quickly fell into swing When each received his treasured class ring. Sensing an important year lay ahead We chose Mike to act as executive head. Cindy stood by to give some advice m History While Patty, as girl Friday, was very concise. Michelle this time was our trusted cashier, Making sure we saved money for the end of the year. The theme of our prom was “Summer Breeze”, And to our relief, came off with great ease. We decided to change and break with tradition, So it was held at Mitchell’s with the Board’s permission. And now we are Seniors, highest at last, With beautiful memories of years now past. Cindy moved up from v.p. to Ms. Pres., While Pat Kelly sat back and agreed with the rez. Patty remained our head steno that year, With Michelle watching our savings with fear. Our magazine drive went fairly well, But other things we had to sell. For our class trip tradition remained, And good old Washington will never be the same. Now graduation is upon us and it’s hard to believe That four years have passed, and it’s time to leave, So farewell G.H.S., you are lucky to have survived, The fantastic class of ’75! During his high school days, Coach Jackson was very active in sports. He was All State in both foot- ball and baseball. He then attended Ithaca College, but service in the Navy interrupted his studies. He was stationed at Camp Bradford Amphibious Training Base in Virginia, as a Chief Specialist in Athletics. There he was a referee for boxing matches between other servicemen. He returned to college and graduated from Ithaca in 1946. He was head football coach in Lyons, New York before he moved to Greenport. Coach Jackson joined the Greenport fac- ulty in 1949. He was Athletic Director and assistant football coach until 1951 when he became head coach. He moved his wife and young family to East Marion in 1954. Both his sons, Dorrie and Gary, played football for their fa- ther. Dorrie played half-back and safety while his brother, Gary, played half- back and linebacker. Coach Jackson’s daughter, Sherry, was a J.V. and Var- sity cheerleader. Coach Jackson’s wife, Del, began working for G.H.S. in 1962 as a study hall teacher. In 1970, Mrs. Jackson became the bus driver for Greenport students attending B.O.C.E.S. This school year, 74-75, is the first year for Mrs. Jack- son to work in the Title III reading center. Both she and Coach Jackson play golf as a hobby. Coach Jackson was club champion at Island’s End in 1971, 1972, and 1973. Coach and Mrs. Jackson’s family has enlarged. Sherry is attending Intermont College in Bristol, Virginia. Gary and Cathy have been married a year and Dorrie and Taddy have been married for six years. On July 10, 1974, Ashley Laine Jackson wgs bom, the first grandchild for Mr. and Mrs. Jackson. Coach Jackson has led Greenport’s football teams to many winning seasons. He received numerous awards for his outstanding coaching. We thank you, Coach Jackson. 65 Varsity Football Sitting: D. Wiggins, R. Schroeder, M. Heaney, R. Mills, A. Dinizio, J. Busso, K. Miller, S. All League Kenny Mark With the loss of many starters from last year’s squad, due to graduation, the Porters’ hopes did not seem too bright. Coach Jackson was also unable to coach for most of the year because of back trouble. It was somewhat of a rebuilding year, but the Porters still finished with a respectable 3-5 record. Although fielding a small team, they competed with quick and aggres- sive plays throughout the year. The offense was led by Junior Jim Getches, whose prime receivers were Jeff Geier, Bob Schroeder, Steve DeDuck, and All-League Bill Richter. Geier and Richter also handled a major part of the running game, along with Pete Dinizio. The offensive and defensive lines were led by Ken Miller and Mark Heaney, both on the All-League squad. Bob Mills and J. C. Busso were also outstanding on the line. Graduating from this year’s squad are Paul Corazzini, Pete Dinizio, Jeff Geier, Ken Meklenburg, Ken Miller, Bill Ri- chter, Bob Schroeder, and Bill Wright. All of these boys will be sorely missed but with many returning starters and a championship Junior High team, Greenport’s hopes look good for the future. Much credit is due to Coaches Jackson, Curco, Utz, and Herzog for their tireless efforts during the year. 67 Kneeling: T. Van Popering, D. Vindigni, R. Davis, R. Welch, J. Whitecavage, T. Anderson. Standing: N. Stilley, A. Welch, P. Frey, T. Tyrer, M. Wilder, P. Kelly, A. Martinsen, Mr. Wells. Cross Country With the loss of only one of the top five men, Greenport’s hopes were high for a championship. Stony Brook proved to be too strong, and the Porters finished with a 4-3 record. The leading Harrier for Greenport was Richard Welch who took 3 first places during the season. Senior Pat Kelly was out most of the year due to an injury and this hurt the team’s chances. Ted Anderson had a strong year, usually fin- ishing near the top. Robbie Smith, Norman Stilley, and Joe Whitecavage also placed well for Greenport. With the whole squad returning, except for Pat Kelly who graduates, the outlook is good for next season. P.K. 68 Field Hockey Sitting: S. Heaney, S. Gladding, N. Zehner, D. Lillis, S. Capon. Playing in a league where most of the teams Dlayed 9th graders only, and being by far the smallest school in the league with Southampton, Easthampton, Westhampton, Port Jefferson, Patchogue, Miller Place, and South Ocean, the Porters won with outstanding hustle and desire and the ability to hit narder than their opponents. The team achieved success with hard work and a real positive attitude. The whole season was achieved by a ster- ling team effort, and Coach Jackson will be helped in future years by this outstanding group of players. Jim Wi- sowaty and Ken Ruthinoski each scored seven touchdowns during the year and both of them have a chance to play a lot of varsity ball next fall. Coach Manwaring and Coach Crowley are to be commended for their fine coaching during this winning season. 77 Immature, aren’t they? Feace Pag Cute—huh? What wig??? Money!!!! Stop in the name of love. More Seniors? Think we’ll get a hundred. Nature Boy It sure looks like it. John Tom, Dick, and Harry Future Senior class. Don’t move. We’re not hiding any thing. You got Bud? Chucky. Charles Atlas. You forgot the address!! Those bright lights. Where’d that draft come from? BASEBALL KNEELING: P. Corazzini, K. Quillin, K. Meklenburg, W. Richter, J. Geier, T. Klipp, D. Vindigni. 2ND ROW: D. Gralton, C. Corwin, K. Ruthinowski, R. Rempe, S. DeDuck, J. Getches, R. Soto, P. Carey, A. Ficurilli. STANDING: Coach Wells, T. Santacroce, M. Bondarchuk, W. Mellas, R. Mills, J. Barrett. Last season the baseball team under Coach Wells had a very inexperienced squad, but showed much improvement as the season progressed. The Porters won their last four games to finish up with a 7 won and 11 lost season. Hopes were high for a successful season as this year’s Beachcomber went to press. Seven boys from last year’s starting line-up were back ready to play. Prospective pitchers for the Porters were: Jeff Geier, Steve DeDuck, Ken Meklenburg, and freshman Ken Ruthinowski. Infielders were Jim Getches, Todd Klipp, Kevin Quillin, and Ricky Rempe. Outfielders were Bill Richter, Paul Corazzini, Arthur Foskey, and Chuck Corwin. Holding down the catcher’s job was George Lekkas with help from Klipp and Corwin. GIRLS SOFTBALL SITTING: M. Archer, R. Caufield, E. Lellman, L. Dinizio, S. Geier, A. Van Tyul, N. Gordon, M. Kelly. Returning from two seasons in which the Porter track- men had lost only one league meet, Coach Connolly looked forward to a promising season. With the largest turnout in recent years, the Porters could field enough men to compete more effectively against the larger schools. The team was led by Seniors Pat Kelly, Ken Miller, Pete Dinizio, Bob Schroeder, Dan Hughes, and George Apidopoulos. Underclassmen Joe Whitecavage, Tim Tyrer, Herb Egert, Mark Heaney, Ted Anderson, Matt Wilder, and Donna Dzenkowski also showed a great deal of promise and hustle. Everyone’s combined efforts were aimed at another championship. 82 The top FIVE. Cousin It. What -Vacuum?? i1 I’m Innocent. Butch. Rough night, Ter? Fill ’er up, Mek. Blah. We’re not hiding anything.
