Photographer: Kerry Klipp Typist: Chris Busso Adviser: Mr. Gildersleeve Beachcomber 1970 Dedication We Seniors have long known him as a mem- ber of our local community, as a teacher in the classroom and a department chairman, as a coach on the court and on the field, and this year especially, as the principal of G.H.S. In all of these roles he has contributed significantly to our lives. As Seniors this year we were pleased to receive his help in solving our problems. In addition we were given through his efforts the following privileges: eleven o’clock lunch hour, use of lockers at any time, senior study halls, and dismissal after seventh period if followed by study hall. The Homecoming Weekend and the Barn Fire Pep Rally were memorable contributions to our school and community spirit. We, the graduat- ing class of 1970, are proud to dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Richard Manwaring. 4 Board Of Education MEMBERS OF THE BOARD: Mr. Joseph Riemer Jr., Mrs. Maureen Van Popering (v-pres), Mr. William Pell III (pres), Mr. Henry HuLse, Mr. Reginald Hudson. 5 Department Heads Mr. Egert Mathematics Coach Jackson Physical Education Mr. Gildersleeve English Mr. Campbell Language Mr. Stoutenburgh Vocational Mr. Mulhall Science Mr. Arkay Business Mr. Randolph Title I Coordinator Mr. Jacobs History High School Math Science Mr. Burlingame Mre. ANNABELLA BARRETO CH. Exchange Student from Guatemala. Who said three more? Buddies till the end. Class On tv September morning the class of 1970 invaded G.H.S. Our two new administrators, Mr, Peterson and Mr, Breeds, had been forewarned about our dilatoriness and true to our reputation we postponed our St. Patty's Dance so long it became April Showers”. To represent our class Frank Corwin was chosen President, Kathy Green Vice-President. Jeri Sherwood Secretary and Teresa Oil.alia Treasurer, As Freshman we were generally loved by our sci- ence and history teacher's, who for some reason, never returned to G.H.S During our Sophomore year they let us loose and we had two dances, the Christmas semi-formal and a Spring hop. Doug Riemer was chosen President. Janie Fiedler Vice-President, with Jeri and Teresa retaining their former offices. Due to the austerity budget in our Junior year, we had to improvise activi- ties outside of school control — undertakings which probably shouldn't be ela- borated in this book In our third year Chris Bregel. elected to the office of Secretary, was our only change in officers. Will we ever forget our Junior class Remember this wild party? A thom among three roses. History adviser who over the summer had “grown” a full head of hair? Many hours have since been spent polishing rings we received in March. Our Junior Prom, of course, will long be remembered for its South Pacific theme, so beautifully done. As we finally became Seniors the same four officers were re-elected. Mrs. Wet more quickly caught on to the “Great Escape” even- day during seventh period. As a cure for those catching senioritis early, the “cage was established in the basement. The departure time for our Senior Trip , finally arrived and we now wonder if the class of ‘71 will have the time we did. We very much doubt it. Before we knew it graduation day was here and we were looking back to the four, fun-filled years we spent together. Also we looked to the future with hope that it would bring as much happiness as our vears at G.H.S. J.H. J.B. That’s right, kids. This dream became reality after our final victory over Mercy, completing a 7-0-1 record. In August, it was our backfield that was the main concern. Three of the four starters had graduated. Overcoming inexperience, the explosive offense put an average of 26 points per game on the score board. The offense was made up of John Stepnoski (all-league) at quarterback, Bev Smith (all-league) at halfback, Rich Staron at flanker, and Mark Corazzini and Tom Shedrick, alternating halfbacks. Consistently opening holes for these men were center Jeff Bubb; guards Don Halliwell and Mark Eckhardt; tackles Doug Riemer (all-league) and Dave Jeff Bubb, co-captain; Coach Jackson; Doug Riemer, co-captain. Offense Andrews; with Tim Morey (all-Suffolk selection) Gary Herzog, Phil Charters and Jim Fin no as ends. The defense, one of the best in Suffolk County, allowed only 46 points to be scored against them all year. The defense was led by offensive stars Doug Riemer, tackle; Jeff Bubb (all league), middle guard; Don Halliwell and Mark Corazzini, linebackers; Gary Herzog and Tom Shedrick, halfbacks; and Phil Charters, defensive end. Other defensive stalwarts were Jerry Foster, Jim Sage, Scott Rogers, and Andy Huzsek. A great deal of recognition goes to Coach Jackson, along with Coaches McEvoy and Corazzini, for their patience and effort during the season. J.B. All Leaguers 69 JV Football Kneeling: C. Gordon, J.
