Hanff. denior The class of 1954 rang up the curtain on a play that will long remain in the memories of those who attended. The play, directed by “Cecil B.” Carruthers, was called “Hobgoblin House.” It startled the audience with its screaming skulls, hang- ing heads and blood-curdling murder stories. There was a strange array of charac- ters portrayed in the play, ranging from a sinister old Darius Krupp, played by Bob Lamb, to the frightened, fumbling serv- ants, Henry, Delilah and Susan, played by Bill Harrison, Camilla Martocchia and Marge Klipp. Then there was the old maid, Aunt Priscilla, played by Greta Hanff, and the skillfully portrayed sup- porting characters: Jack, Bob Corazzini; Jill, Pat Droskoski; Frank, Dick Preston; Marian, Marge Kiski; Bluebeard Bronson, Tom Breese; Bill Wilkins, Ross Norklun and Patricia, Vida Unander. The few hours before the play were spent in applying and perfecting makeup under the direction of Mrs. Douglas Rob- ertson, and in trying to appear nonchalant and at ease before curtain time. When the long anticipated moment arrived, a most meritorious performance was given by our Thespians. As in the past, the entire class partici- pated in producing the play, but in par- ticular, much credit is due the “special ef- fects” men Frank Swiskey, Lawrence Grat- tan, Paul Wasilewski, Peter Reyes, and Frank Shipman for an outstanding piece of back stage work.

The Music Department was again under the able direction of Mrs. Avis Norton and Mr. Joseph Purdy. The musical activities consisted of performances at football games, special programs, parades, and the Spring Concert. After six weeks of training, the band was ready for the home football games. A “pep” band consisting of fourteen members played at one out of town game. In November the Junior Chorus presented a Thanksgiving program for the Parent-Teacher Associa- tion. In December the Music Department combined to present the Christmas Assemb- ly. The Junior Chorus also performed in the March of Dimes Benefit Show in January. In February the band had the special treat of traveling to Riverhead for a Concert by the Ithaca College Band. The band also marched in the annual Washington’s Birthday Parade. On May 7th the Spring Concert was presented fea- turing the Senior and Junior Choruses and the band. Also in May the band presented a special assembly for the high school. Plans were also being made for a North Fork Music Festival. At this festival a picked group of students from Shelter Island, Greenport, Couthold, and Matti- tuck will be used. ■behoof Front row: H.
