PHILLIP G. FOOTE
Dear Greenhill Community,
Prior to the opening of school this year, we had our annual all-school photo taken. All faculty 81 staff gathered, and we broke out green T-shirts
for everyone which said, l'On the Move" - Greenhill School '86-'87. We are UOn the Move" here in more ways than one. We just completed
the first major building that Greenhill has constructed in 10 years. The new Lower School, a magnificent 25,000 foot structure, is turning out to be
all that we hoped for. It is a fabulous addition to our campus. Greenhill is always l'On the Move." We are not self-satisfied. We as teacherfadministrators
are learning each year, month, and day. Greenhill is special - to know that is the Greenhill spirit. Our spirit can best be described by four words:
enthusiasm, innovation, diversity and growth.
ENTHUSIASM - Greenhill continues to seek out and engage teachers of the highest caliber who communicate a passion for learning. Seventy percent
of our 115 fulltime teachers and administrators hold advanced degrees. But outstanding credentials alone cannot suggest the life and vigor that is
the hallmark of the Greenhill classroom. Beyond statistics, test scores and curriculum, there is the very real movement of a child brought to maturation
in an atmosphere of care and concern.
INNOVATION - few schools can match Greenhill's willingness to meld traditional learning technique with the cutting edge of educational theory.
Here are a few areas in which we have achieved national recognition for our programs and approach to the process of education:
We have pioneered the concept of a teaching team made up of faculty who teach only one academic subject.
We were the first school in the Metroplex to place students developmentally as opposed to simple chronological age grouping.
We introduced the Primer class to Dallas.
We were the first to integrate a motor-skills program into the Preschool and Lower School language arts and physical education
We continue to be a leader in computer training for all students.
DIVERSITY - Greenhill seeks a student body that more nearly reflects the world in which our children will live and work. Therefore, the Board
of Trustees sets as one of its goal social, economic, ethnic and religious diversity. While Greenhill students learn from their teachers, they also learn
from each other.
GROWTH - as our "Statement of Purpose" says, "the intellectual and emotional growth of each student as an individual is deemed of paramount
importance at Greenhill." There is no such product as a Greenhill 'lclonef' Individuality and respect for differences of opinion, style and taste are
held in high regard at this school.
l can say with pride, but not arrogance that the school offers an 'Exceptional Education Experience!" Our recent designation as an '1exemplary"
school by the U.S. Department of Education and last spring's highly complimentary commendations during our ten year evaluation by a select committee
of our peer schools testifies to this fact. The Greenhill School is definitely 'lOn the Move."
