On the 3rd of September 1n 1945 Green field High School was blessed with fifty alert tender green freshmen who were more confused than either their new teach ers or their upper classmates Confus ion is a minor word compared to the bed lam that occurred in the study hall try ing to fmd seats and in the hallways as we were learmng our way about the school house Our gracious upper classmen the seniors gave us about two weeks to get our bearings then at the end of that time they uttered their ultimatum On the following morning each frosh was to bow to every senior he met through out the day Freshmen boys were to dress like girls and the girls were to dress as boys Each was to carry his books to and from class in a milk pail This hurt our pride to some extent but nothing compared to the roughmg they gave us at our initiation party held the following evening We did however manage to forget and forgive them they served us delicious refreshments and informed us that, as far as they were concerned we were genulne high school material A freshmen we were allowed to Join any activity that we wanted to namely G A A Y Teens H1 Y G Club band and vocal music Time passed quickly and soon another school year confronted us As we filed into our classes as sophomores we found two or three mxssmg from our ranks one because of illness, some had moved away and others were bitten by the love bug We still had a nice group, however Some of the boys took part in baseball and received letters for their achieve ments Other boys and girls we re chosen to represent our class on the school paper the Black and Gold That year rolled along at a swift pace and as we neared the end, the Junior class chose sxxteen of us to serve at their annual Jumor Senior Banquet, thus helping to prepare us for the coming year Our junior year followed and as usual some of the familiar faces were missing while several new names dotted the class roll We really were busy getting our class officers elected and also electing officers for various other activities It was durtng this year that we gave our class play Jumor Miss to rnake funds for the Junior Senior Banquet Each and everyone of us contributed in some way to make this a success A new activity was organized during our Junior year the Dee A s in which some of our class took an active part As spring drew near so did banquet date Much credit is given our sponsor Miss Leona Thompson for her ve ry capable management and toler ance toward her committees who worked with her We were very proud of our banquet and received many compliments for our efforts Another year was com ward to our senior year As we sped into our places on the first morning of our last year we sadly found only forty glowing faces left in our semor class Having many things to do we busily hustled here and the re It was our duty to initiate the 1948 freshmen and w did this very convincingly to them TV en came rurnors about having an annual and we as Semors of 1949 are very proud to be the sponsor of it We in our class all intend to make a place for ourselves in this world but we pride ourselves in having a member who was awarded a membership certificate in the Press Col ummsts of Iowa because of her journal istic ability There are eight athletical ly minded boys in our class some of whom are lette rmen in football basketball, baseball and track Three girls have letters in G A A other students in our class have received band awards Many others will receive awards granted at the year s end I ' - .
