There's a dear old school in Greenfield, With an Emersonian band, Which has ever seemed to us, To be the best in all the land. It is not necessary in this history to recall the honors of the Emersonian Society in past years, for every one knows in what high honor it has always been held. Our society this year has consisted of about fifty- nine members. We met early in the fall and organ- ized with Lila Daughtrcy as president and Roger Har- rison as secretary. From this time on. great interest was shown and especially in choosing our contestants against the other society and to represent Greenfield High School at Springfield on Thanksgiving. We suc- ceeded in sending our contestant, Vesta Hudspeth, and although she did not gain first, honors, she reflected much honor on our society as well as the whole school. We have'held our meetings every two weeks, and in this way, we could get up much betterprograms. Many of our programs have been of an extra high order and all good. They have either taken up the study of some especial character or topic or consisted of recitations, essays, original stories, poems and mu- sic. Some things which the society especially appre- ciatcd, have been the joint sessions with the other so- ciety on Thanksgiving, Christmas and St, Valentine's Day, and the open sessions of the Arcadian Society. The interest taken by the members in society work has never been surpassed and it can be truly said that the Emersonian Society has kept up its good work all year. A great many of the parts presented showed great skill and wide study in preparation. The rivalry en- tertained with the other society has never been other than fricndly.
