The yearbook is definitely the most practical souvenir of your high school career. The times of serious study as well as those of laughter will be recalled as you turn its pages. You remember old friends and teachers, football games and dances that you never want to forget. The year- book is a catalogue of memories, a portal to th past. It is an attempt to retain the fond memories of high school, far too good to lose. Amumywrm WtWUTY szmoks CLASSES omwY ZAT em fiZTfvirms MHL ncs «w Kmzmwrs C 0 N T E N T S To Mr. Floyd E. Palmiter, teacher and friend of the students of Greene Central School, we, the class of '63, dedicate our yearbook. With this dedication goes our heartfelt thanks for his fine instruction in mathematics and for the acquaintance of a warm, sincere gentleman who will long remain prominent in the glad memories of our Alma Mater. To the Class of 1963 MR. BENNETT Supervising Principal From the day of the horse and buggy to a flight in space has been but a few short years as we think of civilization. In your adult years, many further changes will be made - a trip to the moon for example. Will you be ready? Take every opportunity to gain knowledge and foresight. The dividends paid will be worth the effort Best of luck to each of you. Robert N. Bennett To the Class of 1963 The faculty profess its sincere appreciation to the yearbook staff and the class of 1963 for your many contributions to G. C. S. This book is symbolic of the fine co-operative cl ss effort that has characterized your high school career. May the success which we wish you be always yours. Andrew W. Pearl MR. PEARL High School Principal Congratulations to class of 1963 MR. ELDRED Elementary Supervisor You are ready to begin one of the greatest experiences of a lifetime. The Class of 1963 has continued to fol- low this pattern. A fine class, showing exceptional growth throughout the year, cul- minating in record-breaking final achievements. The Board of Education congratu- lates each and every one of you and wishes you continued success in the years ahead. George G. Raymond, Jr., President GREENE CENTRAL SCHOOL BOARD P.T.A. Muzzy. An old Chinese proverb teaches us that it is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. You, graduates of 1963, live in a stirring time far removed from the world we knew. From your readings in American History you have learned about many noble experiments in America. I would include the P.T.A. in any listing evpr made. This organization involves the great trinity of public education - the parent, the teacher, and you, the student. It cleaves to no single social level and kowtows to no caste de- termined by economic profit. Its goal is better students taught by better teachers in better schools. That's the American way - to try to provide you, our finished product, more than we ourselves had. Lamentation has never been our province. You, the class of 1963, must be the future candle lighters, especially in our present day world, where there is so much darkness. In performing your duties, may our congratulations, prayers and hopes go with you. William J. Evans SOCIAL STUDIES Mr. J. Consagra - Arizona State U. (M. A.) Mr. R. Ellis - SUC Albany (B.S.) Mr. W. They are taught the basic skills in reading, spelling, math and English. Science, music and art are taught for appreciation and understanding; shop and homemaking are taught to give an understanding of tools and an opportunity to learn how to use them and make life more meaningful. These students are eligible to take part in extracurricular activities. Linda Coleman is a member of the Senior Chorus. Duane Hoadley, David Ferguson, and Richard Lawson have passed requirements for operating a movie projector. Linda Coleman, Robert Hendrickson, Steve Burkholder and Duane Hoadley participate in the work training program. We are proud of these students and their endeavors in our school and wish them the best as they take their place in society. Diversity of Program Student Council GARY RICHTER MARIO COMERO I feel that the student government, the Student Council, has functioned very well this year. Through the Council we have developed an effi- cient system of communi- cation between the admin- istration and the student body. Many student prob- lems and suggestions have been considered and acted upon by the administration. The Council is spon- soring its first foreign ex- change student, Mario Comero. It is probable that next year's Council will continue a foreign exchange program. This year there has been wonderful co-operation from the members of the Council which is most important for a successful student government. The Council's officers have been very industrious and efficient. I would like to thank them and the mem- bers of this year’s Student Council for making it a rewarding year, and join with them in wishing success to next year’s Council. SEATED: S. Tydings, G. From a squad of 58 players, only 3 were seniors. The bulk of the players were from the sophomore class. The players reached the heights in a 13-6 win over Walton, last years co-champions, but couldn't maintain the pace in the tough Susquenango league. The blocking and tackling im- proved tremendously over that of last year. The line averaged 155 pounds to a man, and gave a good account of itself. The most important aspect of the 1962 team was its attitude and team spirit. They have acquired a desire to excel and win. Before each game the players had the feeling they would win if they played to the utmost of their ability. This new desire to win, and the experience gained from last year, will make Greene a team to be reckoned with when the football season begins next September. We are going to miss you: Harvey Stalker, Ed Cobb, Carl Vander Bunt, Gary Richter. Cross Country FIRST ROW: Mr. Blakeslee, D. Brown, R. Landon, L. Parks, E. Brown, E. Beebe, D. Fergus, I. Brown. SECOND ROW: B. Stiles, S. Bottle, J. Blakeslee, W. Pratt, P. Luce, J. Foran, A. Pearl, H. Beardsley, A. Poole, P. Sherwood. Champs The Trojan Cross Country team was an amazing surprise this year and from a me- diocre team last season and only two first string boys left, they were fortunate to have several new members in Jim Foran, Phil Sherwood, Tony Poole, Andy Pearl and Stephen Bottle. This with the fine improvements of Warren Pratt, Jim Blakeslee and Paul Luce, gave to the team competitive spirit, along with a fine desire to win as a team. Results were. The Susquenango League Championship and the Section IV B Championship. The six freshmen who did very well all year should really keep the team on a championship trend in 1963. We congratulate them as champions and true sportsmen. BASKETBALL FIRST ROW: G. Holdredge, J. Blakeslee, R. Kellogg, A. Dietrich, A. Pearl, D. Kellogg, T. Mills. SECOND ROW: J. Ramsdell, F. Chambers, J. Wynn, W. Holdredge, T. Packard, G. Clinton, Coach Doherty. Varsity Although the 1962 - 63 season was hardly one of success, it was not one of failure. I would call this a building year. The team this year was faced with replacing the openings left by the loss of four starters of last year. A few of the thrills of the season came when we nearly upset Whitney Point on their home court and then nearly knocked Delhi out of first place on our home court. Next year our four juniors will be back and with the talent on this years J.V. team, it should be one of the best in G. C.S. Basketball. Junior Varsity CENTER: G. Pierce, D. Thomas, S. Thomson, Consagra, J. Utter, R. Boardwell, D. Foster, J. Raymond, D. Fergus. D. Babcock, R. Bennett. SEMI-CIRCLE: Coach Owens, J. Lewis, R. Smith, C. Wolford, G. The 1962-63 J.V. basketball team had a successful season, with a record of 10 wins and 6 losses. The team was aggres- sive and had a tremendous desire to win. Next years varsity should be greatly enhanced when this team moves up to fight for varsity positions. There was no one outstanding player on the team. It was a team that won because of team play and the excellent knowledge of fundamentals. It had fair speed, good ball handling, and exceptional hustle. Varsity Wrestling The Greene Central Wrestlers, under Coach Bub, completed their thirteen dual match season with a 6 and 7 record. The team made a fine showing in the League Finals this year with one champion, Art Zeigler, two seconds, Bill Davis and Art Calice, four thirds, Gil Rogers, Dave Thorpe, Dale Fairbanks, and Frank Helman and two fourth places, Dan Brown and Gerry Cole. Art Zeigler, one of next year's FIRST ROW: D. Brown, B. Shabus, D. Thorpe, G. Eckert, G. Rogers, J. Pollard. SECOND ROW: D. Goetchus, G. Cole, D. Fairbanks, W. Davis, Coach Bub, A. Zeigler, A. The team will be losing seniors: Charles Marvin, co-captain, Dale Fairbanks, and Bill Davis, but with competent under- grads, they hope for an even better season next year. Freshmen Sophomores The ninth and tenth grade girls are continuing the tradition of winning that girls of our school have always enjoyed. Having watched their accomplishments this year, we know that they will serve to im- prove the fortunes of the Girls' Phys. Ed. Department. E I The seventh and eighth grade girls are having the new experience of playing with other schools. We wish them luck as they continue in intramurals and hope they will bring back many honors and trophies to G.C.S. g h t h Intramurals S e V e n t h INTRAMURALS These are some of the seventh and eighth grade boys who will represent Greene Central School’s future varsity teams in football, cross country, basketball, track, wrestling and baseball. During the winter sports season the teams competed with many schools in our area and have shown themselves to be future stars of G. C.S. Resolution We do so declare that prior to the publication of this yearbook we had no knowledge of its final outcome. We had not been previously confronted with any work of its kind and we sincerely hope that our originality will be appreciated. We would like to acknowledge our debt of gratitude to our advisor, Mr. Evans, for his leadership.
